Some MHA criticism here (criticism of Horikoshi's writing of Bakugou & Enji) Be aware that this is pretty rushed, and I wrote this at 4 am. I could go more in depth about each character and their related scenes, but when I wrote this it was 4 am and the night before my exam. So, a bit rushed. Also these are my opinion, no one has to agree. Alright? Ok I don't like how redemption is done in mha mostly because it's such wasted potential (for Enji & Bakugou). Like Hori could have done so much better but no, he barely can even let other characters to confront those two or even criticize them. Neither faced any consequences even. Enji's redemption arc was all about "I feel sad bc my family is happy when I'm not around" at no point did he try to ask what his family actually wanted or needed, even suddenly changing houses. Did you ask? Was that what they wanted? I mean he isn't abusive the way he used to be but still not a well written arc imo. Bakugou's arc is better but it's rushed. We get a few senses like the one he talked with that young boy. Or the apology but other than that his behavior doesn't actually change, it's just that the show presents his behavior like it's funny now. Then suddenly we get to S7 & S8 where he has a bunch of monologues, which explains somethings. Then we see him cheering for Izuku as he falls after winning the battle with AFO. And there's the hospital sense when he cries. Which all of these senses could have worked so much better if we had seen him change slowly through the past 6 seasons. Especially because he was crying for Izuku. His arc, unlike Enji, wasn't all about feeling bad about himself. He cried for Izuku and apologized bc he actually was developing as a person (tho I have a problem with the time of apology, but still). And with the OVA he 1)accepted that Izuku and him have different dreams now. 2) he kinda was the person who pushed Izuku to talk to Ochako, so that makes me think not only they are on talking terms, they're close enough to talk about those things(they have probably talked about it before that sense). 3) he doesn't lash out as much as before and when he does there's way less bite behind it. So there's some character development and a rushed redemption arc which kinda makes it like you're suddenly looking at 2 different Katsukis. It is wasted potential bc his redemption arc could have been better(*) and I'll be bitter about it because he is one of my favorites but still it's better than Enji's. I'm gonna be serious Hori doesn't know how to write a redemption arc. (*) also Katsuki's not so good redemption arc kinda damaged other characters too. Mina & Kirishima don't like bullies but somehow never talk to Katsuki about his behavior. Tsuy doesn't want anyone to get hurt, Ochako, Shoto and Iida are Izuku's friends but??? Teachers overlook this (Aizawa & Yagi &...) and it makes the parents semi neglectful. Mitsuki clearly is the person who Katsuki get his temper from. But expects the school to fix her son, Masaru doesn't say anything. Inko somehow missed that her child was being bullied all these years. All of these could have been fixed if Hori added a few senses that addressed these. But *sighs* I wanna make it clear, I'm mostly blaming Hori for this because he is the writer. He is the one who decides these characters' actions. #gentalk
