🔴 Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) was formed in 1935 and later registered as a society on November 1960 under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860. It is affiliated with International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF), Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (CWF) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It is recognized by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYA&S). It is the controlling body for weightlifting in India. 🔴 The sport of weightlifting was one of the first sports included in the first Edition of Olympic Games during 1896 in Men Section whereas Women section was introduced in Sydney Olympics 2000. 🔴 World Weightlifting Championships began in 1891. The women’s World Championships were first held in 1987, while the first joint men's and women's edition was held in 1991. Championship has different age groups and bodyweight categories. IWF recognises three principal age groups.. 1. Youth: 13–17 years 2. Junior: 15–20 years 3. Senior: 15 years & above

For the first time, India will host the Senior World Weightlifting Championships in 2029. International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has announced that Ahmedabad will host the Senior World Weightlifting Championships in 2029. 🔴 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is a permanent non-profit organization composed of 193 affiliated National Federations worldwide, from all five Continents. It was founded in 1905 in Duisburg, Germany and its headquarter is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is the world controlling body for weightlifting and it is also recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the sole controlling body for international weightlifting. It is a member of Global Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF) and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).
