it's rather upsetting what the genre has come to, the new books are straight up trash . not that the old ones were anywhere near good but they were better, at least they cared to follow a plot instead of spamming gore rape pedophilia and misogyny for 400 pages straight
extreme horror isn't for everyone and that is pretty obvious . not to mention that the wrong book went viral , one you wouldn't touch unless you were well into extreme horror and not easily disturbed so for that to go viral and get read by people who aren't even into horror to begin with has had such a negative impact on the genre as a whole
i really miss it when splatterpunk authors weren't competing with each other on which would write the most disturbing book and pour their focus on shock value
i could talk about how AB's playground going viral on booktok in 2024 ruined the splatterpunk community and the books that followed for hours
