Subjectively, the death of the night sky presents a sort of final cutting of ties with the natural world. Before the advent of electricity, every single person on Earth, no matter the continent or the millennium, could marvel at the sight of the very same Milky Way. Well, not anymore. So it goes. Even if (and this is quite a stretch) technology somehow progresses in a way that reduces light pollution enough for the night sky to be "revived", the bigger picture still stands.
