[18] The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised
The Lord as our healer, often a misunderstood concept.
Modern evangelism has some dangerously deceiving aspects to it.
Ray Comfort pictured it in a very nice parable of a flight guest.
Two flight guests are given a parachute. One is told "this will make your flight much better" ; The other one is told "you will need that if you leave the plain and jump from 20.000 feet hight."
The flight represents our life and the parachute represents Jesus.
Today many so called evangelists promise healing, wealth and a life without any struggle. Thats false teaching and a very dangerous doctrine as it leads to a lot of disappointments and in the end even to "backsliders".
"The Lord our Healer" is often being used to promise people that they will be healed from any disease or suffering.
While I am believing in the God of the Bible who does not change, I also believe in miracles regarding health, wealth, inner peace and change of heart, soul and mind, I'm also a firm believer that we will recieve the fullness of our sanctification after we have been raptured.
And here we have the core of the "healing" .. its about the heart.
The scripture up top refers to exactly that, Jesus reads from the book of the prophet [Isaiah 61.1] to the Jews in the synagogue on sabbath day:
".. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, .."
And continues in [Luke 4:21]
"And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears."
Physical healing through the power of the Holy Spirit is possible but not promised - healing of a broken heart and a weary soul is promised.
Immediate healing is possible but not promised.
Psalm 34:18 KJV
[18] The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalm 147:3 KJV
[3] He healeth the broken in heart, And bindeth up their wounds.
Abba Father, as this week comes to its end, there may have been situations within the last week, in which we got hurt.
Not by beating or cutting, but by words and actions, behavior and people showing their real intentions.
Your word says that you are close to the brokenhearted and that you bind up their wounds.
We admit, that we often have had a different understanding or expectation of the healing you promise in your word.
Help us to set our focus not on our physical needs or anything else what will perish.
We want to set our focus on the eternal, through you.
Heal our hearts, comfort our souls and calm our spirits.
So that we become more like YOU Jesus and act towards our neighbors like you act towards us.
A kind word or action can heal more hidden wounds than we can imagine.
So help us, to love with your agape love and speak words of healing not of destruction.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Messiah we pray
