CVE-2026-29923 The pstrip64.sys driver in EnTech Taiwan PowerStrip <=3.90.736 allows local users to escalate privileges to SYSTEM via a crafted IOCTL request enabling unprivileged users to map arbitrary physical memory into their address space and modify critical kernel structures. What is an IMSI Catcher and how does it work theoretically? An IMSI Catcher is a device that operates at the cellular network level and behaves like a real telecommunications tower belonging to a telecom company. When it is present within a specific geographical area, nearby phones may automatically connect to it instead of the real tower, because in some cellular technologies, the phone does not have a full verification mechanism for the tower it is connecting to, but relies on criteria such as signal strength and network settings compatibility. When this connection occurs, the fake device becomes an intermediary between the phone and the real network. This allows the attacker to identify and track the target person, intercept and access their phone calls and SMS messages over the network, and eavesdrop on them. In some theoretical scenarios, this device can affect the way the phone connects to the network, pushing the phone to fall back to older cellular technologies such as 2G. This fallback does not happen because of a "weak phone", but because of compatibility mechanisms designed to ensure continuity of communication even in the worst conditions. The problem is that 2G networks were designed in a time when modern security concepts did not exist, where: There is no strong mutual authentication between the phone and the tower The encryption is either weak or optional The phone trusts the tower without being able to fully verify its identity In this case, and when the connection passes through an intermediary device, it is theoretically possible to intercept voice calls or SMS messages or access identifying data such as the IMSI and call patterns, without needing to hack the operating system or applications inside the phone. It's important to emphasize that this does not mean that all phones or all networks are vulnerable to this type of attack. 4G and 5G networks have added stronger layers of protection, such as mutual authentication and mandatory encryption, making this scenario much more difficult and restrictive in practice. However, the continued support of older technologies leaves a theoretical margin for exploitation in very limited circumstances and narrow geographical areas. By:@Fjj_C

❗️ BREAKING: Over 2 million hijacked consumer devices, including smart TVs and streaming boxes, were quietly acting as residential proxy exit nodes. All of them, per Google, were part of the NetNut residential proxy network. Google, working with the FBI and Lumen, has moved to dismantle the NetNut network. In a single week, Google tracked 316 distinct threat clusters, including espionage groups, routing attacks and password sprays through suspected NetNut exit nodes. https://www.internationalcyberdigest.com/google-and-fbi-dismantle-residential-proxy-network-built-on-millions-of-hijacked-home-devices/
