| 3 | Stanford University just made their AI & Machine Learning curriculum free on YouTube.
These are the actual courses their student are paying $200k+ for:
🔹 CS230: Deep Learning
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gz3HAeQg
🔹 CS231N: Deep Learning for Computer Vision
🔗 https://lnkd.in/g__u8tZW
🔹 CS336: Language Modeling from Scratch
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gdnFZF4m
🔹 CS25: Transformers
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gcKDqZ44
🔹 CME295: LLM Evaluation
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gT-QUq9K
🔹 CS329H: ML from Human Preferences
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gB7es9vX
🔹 CS224R: Deep Reinforcement Learning
🔗 https://lnkd.in/gv6WYrgB
These lessons are important because AI has the power to be the great equalizer. To allow marginalized communities to finally build wealth and standing in a system they were a big part of building.
For a long time, the barrier was lack of access. Colleges and universities not permitting women and POC to even attend, and once that was relieved, the costs being much too high for them to afford.
But now, we have access to the world’s top education completely free.
Please take the time to select even 1 of these courses and focus on it for the rest of the season.
Happy learning✨

| 6 | When applying to elite colleges, having good grades and SAT scores are a must to ensure that your application is competitive.
However, even students with a 4.0 GPA and 1600 SAT score receive rejections from the top schools every year.
It's clear that other more qualitative factors, which your child will need to convey through various college essays, play a critical role in your child's admissions outcomes.
Students often balk at the sheer number of topics they can discuss when writing college essays. It can be difficult to understand what colleges are really looking for when they read essays.
What better way to understand what admissions committees are seeking than to read examples from students who were admitted?
We've published a guide containing successful college essay examples written by students accepted to schools like Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and WashU:
Successful College Essay Examples from Top-25 Schools
If you have any questions about college essays, please make sure to list them in the Comments section of the linked guide!

| 9 | 🤔How to write supplemental Essay.
👉First, apply the same strategies you did for the ‘why us’ essay (specifics!)—go to the website of the undergraduate program or major you’re applying to/indicating interest in, and look at student or alumni profiles. Is there anyone who makes you say, “yeah, I’d love to do that”? Write about them. Is there a summer program, a particular class, an internship, or anything else associated with this program that attracts you?
Second, talk about where you want to be in 5-10 years. Imagine your dream job and tell the admissions committee how this particular program or major might help you reach it. This is a time when you can and should be specific—because you’re not committing to the story you’re writing down. You’re just demonstrating that you’ve thought about it and have a passion or vocation pulling you in one direction or another.
If you want to view some examples of strong major essays, I encourage you to review our guide to writing great supplemental college essays. | 301 |
| 10 | When applying to college, most students and parents focus mostly on the Common App Essay, which, in fairness, is the single most important essay your child will have to write for their college applications.
However, it's not the only super important college essay your child will write.
Whereas the Common App Essay is intended to help admissions committees understand who your child is and what they value, supplemental essays are assigned by each school to understand how your child will fit with their institution.
Fortunately, certain supplemental essay prompts come up again and again, and I want to share with you how to write the three main ones: "Why us?" diversity, and major.
I'll tackle "Why us?" first. Essentially, schools want to know specifically why you want to attend there. Here are some strategies to write a good "Why us?" essay:
Work backwards. Think about what your big dream is—what or who you hope to become—and identify a few specific things about each college you’re applying to, asking yourself how each one of those is going to help you get there.
Have a ‘mini-thesis’ for each school rather than having a general list of qualities the school meets for you. For instance, if your child is interested in studying history, they could include a tidbit in their “Why Yale?” essay from the campus tour they were able to take, about how Yale’s architects were so obsessed with the past that they built the campus to look even older than it is. This jives with their own interest and the fact that Yale has one of the best history departments in the country.
Go beyond the website, and be specific. Don’t restate, for example, the “About Barnard” section of the Barnard brochure to the admissions committee—they already know why they offer you a great opportunity. Talk about your experiences with the college you’re applying to—did you visit and hear something from a tour guide, admissions officer, student, or professor? If you couldn’t visit, did you do some online research that got you in touch with some of the Big Themes a tour guide or info session would hit? Is there a particular class you’ve heard of that’s legendary on campus? A tradition at the school? An alumna/alumnus of the college whose work has inspired you?
If you want to view some examples of strong "Why us?" essays, I encourage you to review our guide to writing great supplemental college essays. Tomorrow, I'll discuss how to address diversity prompts. | 273 |

| 12 | College application season brings with it a lot of stress and tons of major questions, about college lists, essay topics, recommendation letters, score choice, and so on.
Another massively important question—and associated decision—is whether your child should apply to college through early action (EA) and early decision (ED) programs.
If EA and ED have been on your child's mind, I encourage you to review the following guide:
Early Action vs. Early Decision: Pros and Cons and What Your Child Should Do
We put early action and early decision head to head across four categories:
Deadlines and decision dates
Obligation to attend
Admission odds
Financial aid
Then, we provide recommendations for who should and who shouldn't take advantage of these programs.
Not sure what these programs even are? We cover it all thoroughly in the guide.

| 13 | Ivy League rankings are released annually by major publications to the delight of students, alumni, and university staff whose schools moved up and to the chagrin of those whose schools moved down.
Current and former students often use these rankings for bragging rights, and many journalists, media members, and educators downplay their significance, citing issues with methodology and bias.
However, the pushback doesn't deter high-achieving college applicants and parents, who want to know which Ivy League school is the best.
Interest in this answer stems from the Ivy League being synonymous with America’s most selective, prestigious, and elite colleges.
In other words, not only are Ivy League acceptance rates among the country’s lowest, each school carries a strong brand name that follows its alumni throughout their education, career, and network.
However, ranking organizations use variable methodologies, which leads to different lists. We've collected and organized the information for you in the following guide:
Ivy League Rankings 2025: The Definitive Guide
The guide describes how rankings are developed, how you should interpret them, and what they mean for your child in terms of where they will fit best. Moreover, we discuss how "Ivy Plus" and "Public Ivy" schools stack up. | 351 |

| 15 | Many of our seniors are understandably stressed about their college applications this time of year, especially about writing their Common App Essay (i.e., personal statement).
On the other hand, one of the most overlooked sections of college applications is the Activities section, which requires applicants to describe up to 10 extracurricular experiences and accomplishments--in no more than 150 characters each!
The good news: when approached systematically, the Activities section provides one of the best opportunities for your child to shine.
To help your child stand out among the applicant pool, I encourage you to read our in-depth guide on the Common App Activities section:
How to Stand Out on the Common App Activities Section
In the guide, we discuss foundational and advanced strategies your child can use to set themselves apart, as well as provide a strong example of a completed Activities section. In addition, all of the advice also applies to University of California (UC) applications, although we have a separate guide on that subject that you can view here. | 277 |
