Israel’s strike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase in Syria, was a simple calculation: strike before Turkish troops arrive, because NATO’s Article 5 protects Turkey itself, but does not necessarily protect Turkish forces operating beyond its borders. Israel is seemingly acting on the assumption that it can threaten Turkish interests in Syria without triggering a collective NATO response.
Ankara is now being shown, in practical terms, that its security guarantees may have very clear limits, particularly when the aggressor is Israel.
So what does Turkey do when the alliance to which it has belonged for more than seventy years appears unwilling or unable to restrain the country threatening its forces? It looks elsewhere.
Turkey has already been strengthening its relationships with Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, while developing closer ties with BRICS. This does not mean Ankara is about to abandon NATO, but it does mean that an alternative economic, political and security architecture is gradually becoming available, and every Israeli provocation gives Turkey another reason to move towards it.
The consequences for the West could be catastrophic. Europe risks losing the military power protecting its southeastern flank, while the United States risks losing access, influence and strategic reach across the Black Sea, the eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East.
The extraordinary irony is that the US-Israel axis may be accelerating precisely the geopolitical realignment it claims to be trying to prevent. Every confrontation with Iran has pushed Tehran closer to Russia and China, and every provocation against Turkey now risks doing the same to Ankara.

Even if all new votes counted towards were for Randy Fine, the percentage still would not have dropped from 35% to 18%, unless votes were taken away.
This is unprecedented, here's the proof:
At 27% counted, 62,000 remain out of ~85,000 → about 23,000 counted.
Bilzarian has 35% of 23,000 = 8,050 votes.
Later, 49,000 remain → 36,000 counted, so 13,000 new votes were added.
If Balzarian then has 18% of 36,000, that would equal only 6,480 votes.
That’s mathematically impossible from newly counted votes alone, because Balzarian already had about 8,050 votes. Even if all 13,000 new votes went against him, his share would fall only to:
8,050/36,000≈22.4%
So 100% of the newly counted 13,000 could have gone against him and he still wouldn’t fall to 18%.
To reach 18%, roughly 1,570 of his previously counted votes would also have had to be removed/reallocated/corrected in addition to all 13,000 new votes going against him. | 810 |
