Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• I am heading to Mecca, not to perform ʿumrah,
• but rather, my purpose is to pray in al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, perform ṭawāf,
• and make duʿāʾ for Shaykh Rabīʿ – may Allah have mercy on him –
• and make duʿāʾ against those who wronged Shaykh Rabīʿ – may Allah have mercy on him –
• by attributing to him that which he did not say,
• or by criticising him for the truth he spoke—whether privately or publicly.
• And I advise all my brothers to make duʿāʾ for the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah—both the living and the deceased,
• and to make duʿāʾ against those who wronged them.

• Our striving shaykh, the shaykh of virtue, Shaykh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī al-Madkhalī has passed away,
• The ʿallāmah, sincere in his protective jealousy over the religion of Allah, the ʿaqīdah, and the methodology of the Salaf,
• The exposer of deviant methodologies and the critic of them with knowledge and justice.
• And how often I saw him weep out of pain for the religion of Allah.
• In the last private meeting with his excellency in his house, which gathered me, him, and Shaykh Ṣāliḥ as-Suḥaymī,
• He was advising with patience, not rushing, and good manners.
• O Allah, have mercy upon Your servant Rabīʿ ibn Hādī and forgive him,
• And make him in bliss in his grave,
• And place him in al-Firdaus al-Aʿlā of Paradise, accompanying the Prophet ﷺ and the prominent figures of the Salaf,
• And magnify the reward for his family and all of his offspring,
• And improve their condolence, and our condolence, and the condolence of every Muslim man and woman who loved him for Your sake.
• And we do not say except what pleases the Lord,
• And indeed, at your parting, O shaykh of truthfulness and virtue, we are deeply grieved.

The Four Types of People in This World: The Prophet ﷺ Divided the Believers — So Which One Are You?
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• The Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ is not a day of celebration in which special baked goods and foods are made,
• And it is not a mourning day in which sorrow is displayed.
• Rather, it is a day legislated for fasting.
• So whoever fasts it is more deserving of Mūsā, peace be upon him,
• And following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ,
• And promised that his minor sins of the previous year will be expiated,
• And with the attainment of the rewards of fasting.
• So be keen—may Allah protect you—on fasting it, just as the Prophet ﷺ was keen on fasting it and preferred it over other days.

The Ruling on Fasting Ashura When It Falls on a Saturday
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
My beloved ones for the sake of Allah, indeed, I remind myself and my brothers to fast the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, which this year falls on Saturday. And it is Sunnah for the Muslim to fast Friday and Saturday. And I encourage my brothers to seize this day. And that they should not be prevented from fasting it due to the statement of some people of knowledge that fasting Saturday voluntarily is forbidden. For what is established is the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And the Prophet ﷺ said a correct, decisive statement, none has a statement alongside his; so the Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not fast Friday unless you fast a day before it or a day after it,” and there is no doubt that the day after it is Saturday. So whoever fasts Friday and fasts Saturday has entered into the explicit wording of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And when the Prophet ﷺ entered upon Jawayriyyah, may Allah be pleased with her, and she was fasting Friday, he ﷺ said to her: “Did you fast yesterday?” She said: “No.” He said: “Will you fast tomorrow?” She said: “No.” He said: “Then break your fast.” So the Prophet ﷺ said to her: “Will you fast tomorrow?” meaning, will you fast Saturday? And had fasting Saturday been forbidden in voluntary fasts, the Prophet ﷺ would not have asked her in the first place, rather he would have said to her directly: “Break your fast.” But since the Prophet ﷺ said to her: “Will you fast tomorrow?” and she said: “No.” He said: “Then break your fast.” From this we learn that had she been fasting Saturday along with Friday, the Prophet ﷺ would not have commanded her to break her fast.
Because the previous question fits the ruling, and it is a reasoning in the ruling. And this ḥadīth is in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Muslim. So the authentic, clear, evident aḥādīth clearly and evidently guide the believer that it is not forbidden for him to fast Saturday if he fasts it along with Friday, based on the text of these aḥādīth we have mentioned. And I, on this occasion, urge my brothers not to send messages to the people encouraging them not to fast the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ this year, because one of them may believe that fasting Saturday is not allowed as a voluntary fast. For although this opinion may appear stronger to you, what the majority of the scholars hold—and what the clear and evident proofs indicate—is that it is permissible to fast Saturday along with Friday or along with Sunday.
Therefore, do not prevent anyone from fasting the Day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, which the Prophet ﷺ used to eagerly observe with fasting, due to a view you hold. There is no harm that you act upon what you see for yourself, even if an objective fiqh study devoid of partisanship to individuals clearly and evidently shows that the opinion that forbids fasting Saturday voluntarily in all cases is a weak opinion that does not stand before the clear, authentic proofs, nor before the established Islamic legal principles.

The Magnificent Virtue of Fasting Ashura: A Day That Wipes Out an Entire Year of Sins!
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
• The Prophet ﷺ said: “Abu Bakr is in Paradise, ʿUmar is in Paradise, ʿAlī is in Paradise, ʿUthmān is in Paradise, Ṭalḥah is in Paradise, az-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām is in Paradise, ʿAbdur-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf is in Paradise, Saʿīd ibn Zayd ibn ʿAmr ibn Nufayl is in Paradise, and Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ is in Paradise.”
• And the Prophet ﷺ said to ʿĀ’ishah – may Allah be pleased with her: “Are you not pleased to be my wife in this world and the Hereafter?” She said: “Yes, by Allah!” He said: “Then you are my wife in this world and the Hereafter.”
• And indeed, we bear witness to what the Prophet ﷺ bore witness to, we love these individuals, and we hate those who hate them.

Always Be Humble: A Grave Warning Against Belittling Your Fellow Muslims!
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli
Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said:
Ibn Mufliḥ – may Allah have mercy on him – said in al-Furūʿ:
• “Our Shaykh (meaning: Ibn Taymiyyah – may Allah have mercy on him) said: Most of the tribulations that have occurred are due to lack of patience;
• For tribulation has two causes: either weak knowledge or weak patience,
• Indeed, ignorance and injustice are the roots of evil,
• And the doer of evil only does so due to his ignorance that it is evil, and because his soul desires it,
• So through knowledge, ignorance is removed, and through patience, desires and lusts are restrained—thus the tribulation is removed.”
• I say: He spoke the truth, by the Lord of the Kaʿbah.
• And for this reason, the Prophet ﷺ used to command with patience,
• Especially in situations where tribulations are expected to flare up—like the injustice of rulers and what is disliked from them.
• I say: And those who stir up tribulations are callers to it—some of whom ascribe themselves to knowledge, and others,
• Due to their lack of patience, or their lack of knowledge, or the corruption of their knowledge, or their evil intention.
• And all four, or some of them, may gather in some of them.
• And often, when tribulations erupt, those callers to it flee to a place where they enjoy luxury,
• And the general people burn in its fire.
• So if only my people knew.
