قال الشيخ سليمان الرحيلي حفظه الله: Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: شعبان مقدمة لرمضان، وكثرة الصيام فيه كالسنة الراتبة القبلية لصيام رمضان. Sha’ban is a prelude to Ramadan, and abundant fasting in it is like the regular Sunnah fasts before the fast of Ramadan. تقول عائشة رضي الله عنها: “لم أر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صام من شهر قط أكثر من صيامه من شعبان، كان يصوم شعبان كله، كان يصوم شعبان إلا قليلا.” A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fast any month more than his fasting in Sha’ban; he used to fast all of Sha’ban—he used to fast Sha’ban except a little.” وكان السلف يقبلون فيه على مصاحفهم، تهيئة لأنفسهم لاستقبال شهر القرآن. قال الشيخ سليمان الرحيلي حفظه الله: Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli, may Allah preserve him, said: شهر شعبان فيه خير كبير يغفل عنه من العباد الكثير، فقلّ من يجتني جناه ويعمل فيه بما يرضي مولاه، ويا سعادة من عمل بالسنة، وعبد الله وقت الغفلة. The month of Sha’ban has great goodness that many among the servants are heedless of, so few are those who reap its fruits and act in it in a manner that pleases their Lord. The people—among them are those who are heedless of the month of Sha’ban, and among them are those who revive it with innovations, such as the “thousand-unit prayer” and specifying its middle night for fasting and standing (in prayer). The Great Month of Shaʿbān: How the Salaf Prepared Their Hearts for Ramaḍān — the Month of the Reciters of the Qur’an! Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli حفظه الله

Usāmah ibn Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah and the son of the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: “O Messenger of Allah! I have not seen you fast a month from among the months the way you fast in Shaʿbān!” He ﷺ said: “That is a month which people are heedless of, between Rajab and Ramaḍān, and it is a month in which deeds are raised to the Lord of the worlds, so I love that my deed be raised while I am fasting.” Declared ḥasan by al-Albānī in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Nasāʾī (2356). Shaykh Sulaymān Ar-Ruḥaylī, may Allah preserve him, said: The recommendation of fasting Shaʿbān is emphasized by three tremendous matters: The first: because Shaʿbān is a month of heedlessness, since it falls between Rajab and Ramaḍān, and worship during times of heedlessness and places of heedlessness is greatly virtuous. The second: because it is a month in which the deeds of the servants are raised, and from the Sunnah and goodness for the servant is that his deed be raised to his Lord, the Most High, while he is fasting. The third: because it was the action of the Prophet ﷺ, for he used to fast in Shaʿbān in a manner that he did not fast in other than it.
