(iii) ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), where scientists work simultaneously under both a functional department (e.g., propulsion, electronics) and are also assigned to specific mission project teams (e.g., Gaganyaan, Chandrayaan).
(iv) A large IT company that outsources accounting to a firm in Pune, design to a studio in Bengaluru, manufacturing to a facility in Noida, and customer support to a BPO in Manila — coordinated from a small HQ in Mumbai.

Jio's’management reading industry reports, consultant analyses, and newspaper articles about competitor reactions daily is a direct example of strategic surveillance. It helped Jio pick up early signals about competitor strategies, emerging consumer behavior, and even demonetization's’potential impact — unanticipated information that had a major bearing on its strategy.
3. Special Alert Control (1.25 marks)
Demonetization in November 2016 was exactly the kind of unexpected event that triggers Special Alert Control — an immediate and intense review of strategy. This event (though ultimately positive for Jio) required an urgent reassessment: could Jio's’network handle the sudden surge in subscribers? Were its pricing models still optimal given changed consumer spending patterns? Special alert control triggered a rapid strategic review and infrastructure scaling decision.
