Based on feedback and popular quesions. Machine Learning Terms Through Malware Analysis Analogies A model is a detector: it takes file features as input and produces an output such as #malware or benign. Weights or parameters are automatically learned thresholds and coefficients inside the #detector. Training is the process of adjusting those parameters using labeled #malware and benign #samples. A loss function measures how wrong the detector currently is. Training tries to minimize this value. A gradient indicates how each parameter should change to reduce #detection errors. An epoch is one complete pass through the entire training #dataset. Inference is running a new, previously unseen binary through the trained detector. A feature is a measurable property of a file: section entropy, import count, file size, byte distribution, API calls, strings, or opcode statistics. A tensor is a multidimensional array used to store batches of features, byte sequences, embeddings, or model outputs - usually in GPU memory. In other words, a #neural #network is not magic. It is a detector whose internal rules are learned from data instead of being written manually. #hacking #research #ML #malware #analysis #math #programming #threatintel #cybersecurity
