🚀Launch of the "Entrepreneurship and Digital Marketing" Program to Empower Refugees and Host Communities
Addis Ababa – June 9, 2026
In a strategic move aimed at fostering economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, the "Ethio Friends Foundation for Refugees" (EFFR) launched its flagship program, "Entrepreneurship and Digital Marketing," on Monday, June 8, 2026. The program aims to support refugees, returnees, and members of host communities in both Addis Ababa and the Gambella Region, ensuring improved livelihoods, support for children's education, and family well-being through e-commerce technologies.
Launch Ceremony and Strategic Partnerships
The launch ceremony was attended by representatives from the Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), international organizations, and 120 participants carefully selected from 400 families identified during a field survey conducted in April.
On Tuesday, June 9, the first training cohort began its intensive journey in partnership with Oromia Bank. The program focuses on equipping participants with the necessary skills to transform their ideas into viable projects. Initial training sessions covered the following pillars:
- Entrepreneurial Mindset.
- Business Planning.
- Simplified Financial Planning.
- Digital Marketing and Content Creation.
- Fundamentals of E-commerce.
- Customer Interaction Mechanisms and Digital Market Requirements.
The program also prioritizes awareness regarding technological challenges. Participants were trained in critical thinking within the new media environment, focusing on the "Think Before You Share" principle to protect startups from digital misinformation and ensure the safety of the social fabric.
Future Outlook
The EFFR emphasizes that this program represents a practical roadmap to transition the targeted groups from dependence on temporary aid toward self-sufficiency. The program is scheduled to continue through subsequent phases, providing participants with additional support, including covering unlimited monthly internet subscriptions for a full year, to empower them to launch their own businesses and ensure their long-term sustainability.
