Situation on the Putvyl direction, Sumy Oblast:
Over the last two weeks, Russian forces began new cross-border operations into northern Sumy Oblast, entering the region in two different areas.
In the north, Russian forces crossed the border from the village of Slobodka-Ivanovka and entrenched along positions in the windbreaks adjacent to the abandoned railway line east of Vovkivka. Fighting is now underway for the rest of this railway line and the forested areas to the west.
In the south, the Russians crossed the border from the area of Khodeikovo and captured positions in the forests to the south. Fighting is continuing for adjacent forested areas.
+ ~5.72 km² in favour of Russia.

▪️According to the publication, the visit of CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow not only failed to produce results but may have convinced the Kremlin of the need for further escalation.
▪️Ratcliffe allegedly conveyed a message to Moscow: "In 6-12 months, it will be even worse - it's time to negotiate." In the Kremlin, as WP claims, this was perceived as a sign of weakness.
▪️Ten days later, Russia sharply increased its strikes with rocket-powered drones and missiles against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, water supply, supermarkets, and food storage facilities.
▪️According to the publication, Moscow is counting on using the winter to exploit the Ukrainian shortage of Patriot systems and other air defense equipment in order to increase pressure on Kyiv and its population.
▪️The Kremlin, according to WP, believes that Ukraine will eventually break, and that establishing control over the entire Donbas region is the minimum condition for future negotiations.

Situation on Orikhiv front: During the last week, the situation for Ukrainian army in Orikhiv-Mala Tokmachka has continued to deteriorate. In Orikhiv, it is now safe to say that assault units are operating in the southern part of the town, where they have managed to consolidate their positions. Meanwhile, Russian troops have used the plantations south of Mala Tokmachka to infiltrate the long stretch of the locality, whilst the main fighting with Ukrainian forces continues in the vicinity of the prison.
