A man once lost everything in a flood his house, his crops, and all his savings. Broken and hopeless, he sat near a tree and cried, “Why does life punish me again and again?” Nearby, the Bodhisattva was born as a wise old deer. Seeing the man in sorrow, the deer asked, “If a storm destroys a tree’s leaves, does the tree die?” The man replied, “No, it grows again in time.” The deer smiled and said, “Then why do you think one season of loss means the end of your life?” The man stayed silent. The deer continued: “Gold becomes pure only after fire. The strongest bamboo bends the most in storms. And the human mind becomes wise only after suffering.” Inspired, the man slowly started rebuilding his life. Years later, he became stronger, calmer, and kinder than before. One day he remembered the deer’s words: “Failure does not come to destroy you. It comes to remove the arrogance, fear, and weakness that success hides.”
