Note: This list covers issues only from the month of May 2026.
Also, the Mains 2025 as well as Prelims 2026 have been indications enough regarding the increasing importance of CA and Contemporary issues in UPSC CSE. Specific Qs out of CA are bound to increase.
As UPSC exhausts its Static Quota, expect a CA heavy Mains going forward to help it establish proper differentiators.
Thus, prepare CA issues well.

| 8 | Finally got the time to compile the hits from FreshLensIAS free intiatives in Prelims 2026.
And I'm glad to share that there were 20 Questions (40 marks, approximately 50% of predicted cutoff of Prelims 2026!!) that could be solved with the help of materials shared here (Laser-Focus/Pathfinders, CA Clippings)
Sharing the compiled PDF for your perusal.
This reinforces that FreshLensIAS materials have the highest return on time investment amongst all CA sources.
Being regular with them will ensure you Ace Current Affairs in Prelims and Mains.

| 11 | Going to Delhi, enrolling in XGP, BWFG, etc are things a lot of people are doing mindlessly. I strongly recommend applying your brain before doing any of it.
Have you put a Prelims strategy in place? Are you sure you're even writing Mains next year? What are you doing to make it certain?
Rational and Impartial assessment of things is extremely important these days. Internet is amplifying certain flawed opinions at the cost of rational ones. Use your mind and then decide the best plan of action for yourself.

| 12 | If you've failed Prelims twice or more, the advice to 'focus only on Mains till December' will keep you stuck in the same loop.
There's oft-repeated advice that since Mains is the most crucial phase of the UPSC CSE examination, everyone should focus solely on it right after Prelims, even if they do not make it to Mains.
However, I see it as a flawed recommendation. I see people blindly enrolling themselves into a popular Mains Test Series, while completely forgetting about Current Affairs, CSAT or Prelims Tests until December.
There's no doubt that Mains is the most important stage of the exam. However, if someone has not been able to clear Prelims, they don't even get to attempt this stage. And if they've failed in Prelims two or more times, it's most likely a systemic and strategic issue. They have major gaps- either in GS or in CSAT or in both. Most of the times, these gaps can't be solved in a span of 3-4 months.
In such a scenario, focusing solely on Mains until December is a huge mistake. It perpetuates the cycle of Prelims failure.
And the same pool of people who always used to clear Prelims end up clearing Prelims again.
Thus, one important piece of advice:
If you have struggled to clear Prelims in the past, keep preparing for Prelims throughout the year, along with Mains preparation.
Focus on CSAT, History and Current Affairs throughout the year and not only from December/January. Attempt Sectional Tests of Static Subjects and do adequate MCQ practice.
That way, you'll be able to get the opportunity to write Mains and prove your mettle.
Don't mindlessly follow what the herd says or does. It's not how we get ahead of them. We get ahead by doing things differently and as per our own needs.

| 14 | How I scored 107+ twice consecutively in GS1 (UPSC CSE Mains)
Most aspirants plateau at 60-75 in GS1. Here's what got me past 105 twice.
1. Have handy, holistic notes -even for the "small" topics
Art and Culture, World History, Post-Independence India. Most aspirants treat these as secondary and pay for it in the answer booklet. I had compact notes I could revise in a couple of hours before the exam and that's the standard you should aim for.
2. Brainstorm PYQs relentlessly
I brainstormed 300+ GS1 Mains PYQs. Not just in the "read and move on" style but actually thinking through the intro, structure, value-additions, and conclusion for each in a time-bound manner. So when UPSC asks "Discuss the impact of railways on Indian society", you have adequate content and structured template ready in your head.
This single habit is what most aspirants skip and what most GS1 high scorers do.
3. Revise Prelims-level Ancient and Medieval History alongside Culture
The syllabus doesn't mention Ancient/Medieval History for Mains, but UPSC keeps asking questions that demand it. For instance Akbar's religious policy, Early Vedic vs Later Vedic culture, technological innovations in medieval India. A pure "Culture-only" prep leaves you blank here. Don't shelve your Prelims History books after May.
4. Integrate contemporary issues into Geography and Society
Most Geography notes are static. Real Mains questions sit at the intersection of static concepts and contemporary issues such as heatwaves, climate migration, urban flooding, declining fertility, caste census etc. I built a parallel "contemporary GS1" file and merged it into my static notes during revision. If you do this well, this alone can add 10+ marks.
5. Meet each subject's specific demand every single time
For example,
Geography answer without a map or diagram is incomplete. Period.
History answer without specific dates, dynasties, personalities or primary sources is generic and not useful.
If you can't draw India and World maps quickly, fix it this month.
I left questions worth 30+ marks completely unattempted in both attempts and still scored 107+.

| 16 | To cover World History quickly, these micronotes can be used. They are very holistic and yet very short.
Had shared them for Mains-2025 as well and World History questions could be easily tackled with this.

Over the past 1.5 years, I've shared almost all materials including Laser Focus Compilations, Clippings and CA Quizzes for free for both Prelims and Mains.
However, going forward, to keep this Channel sustainable and to further improve quality of resources shared, I will have to put a nominal price on the initiatives here.
Daily CA Clippings (TH, IE) will always remain free.
