A real black cat walked into a Hong Kong 7-Eleven, stole chips on CCTV, and went viral.
7-Eleven didn’t let it die as a meme. They found him, adopted him as a mascot, and staff named him 十八Bro. Forehead markings look like “18.” Also 7 + 11 = 18.
What 7-Eleven / DFI did next
• Turned him into an actual IP, not a one-off joke
• Set up @18bro.the.blackcat on Instagram
• Pushed him across Hong Kong 7-Eleven stores with its posters
• Started treating him like a real character/brand
• DFI Retail Group (runs 7-Eleven in Hong Kong) called 十八Bro their “very own IP character” on LinkedIn, with plans for merch, collabs, and storytelling beyond stores
What’s 7-Eleven?
World’s largest convenience-store chain.$30B market cap, 87,000 stores worldwide. 70,000 of them in Asia.
