In 2015, a significant number of cardiac procedures were performed in Germany, with 911,841 left heart catheterizations and 365,038 percutaneous coronary interventions. While complication rates for elective cardiac catheterization are generally low, the risk of complications increases with patient age and comorbidities.
This case report describes the tragic outcome of a 49-year-old woman with a long-standing history of anorexia nervosa who underwent a diagnostic left heart catheterization due to suspected takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC). Approximately 3.5 hours after the procedure, she was found with an extended hemorrhage from the puncture site, which ultimately led to her death.
Autopsy and forensic investigations revealed no pre-existing conditions that could have contributed to the fatal bleeding. Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder with a high mortality rate, and suicide is one of the most common causes of death among patients with this condition. Given the patient's history of psychiatric problems and previous suicidal utterances, the authors suspect that she may have manipulated her pressure bandage with suicidal intent.

This case highlights the importance of recognizing the underlying medical and psychiatric complexities in patients with anorexia nervosa who undergo invasive cardiac procedures. Close monitoring and appropriate management of potential complications, as well as addressing the patient's mental health needs, are crucial in ensuring the best possible outcomes for these individuals. The case also underscores the need for a multidisciplinary approach in the care of patients with both cardiac and psychiatric conditions, to address the unique challenges and risks they may face.

Female Dies After Being Hit by a Boat in San Juan del Sur, Rivas
The boat driver was speeding and after losing control of the boat without being able to stop, he hit the young woman, causing her death hours later.
The young woman Jennifer Urbina, 19 years old, died on the afternoon of Sunday, May 19, minutes after being brutally hit by a boat that was speeding in the waters of San Juan del Sur.
Witnesses stated that when the tragedy occurred, the young woman from Matagalpa was swimming in front of the El Timón restaurant, in the bay of San Juan del Sur, in the department of Rivas. The deceased had arrived from the municipality of Muy Muy to enjoy a family outing.
According to police investigations, the incident was recorded by a citizen, showing the boat driver navigating at excessive speed while towing an inflatable with tourists on board.
The video will serve as evidence of the tragic incident. The images also show Urbina trying to move aside to avoid being hit by the boat, but the attempt was in vain; the structure of the vessel struck her with force.
In an attempt to save her life, Urbina was taken to the Gaspar García Laviana primary hospital in San Juan del Sur, but upon arrival at the medical center, she showed no signs of life.
"That man was driving like crazy, it seemed like he wanted to reach the shore. When he noticed the presence of the young women, he shouted 'be careful,' but he hit one of them," a witness told local media.
The police arrested the boat driver, and in the coming hours, he will be brought before the court to answer for the case that has left mourning and grief in a Nicaraguan family.
