The diagram illustrates the complete process of producing tomato ketchup from the initial harvesting stage to the final distribution of the bottled product.
Overall, the manufacture of tomato ketchup consists of three main groups of stages: the collection and inspection of tomatoes, the preparation and cooking of the mixture, and finally the packaging and distribution to supermarkets.
In the first stage, ripe tomatoes are picked and placed into baskets. These are then sorted so that only good-quality tomatoes proceed to the next step, while spoiled ones are removed. After sorting, the tomatoes are transported to the factory, where their skins, stalks, and seeds are removed. The cleaned tomatoes are then placed in containers and crushed into pulp.
In the second group of stages, vinegar, sugar, and salt are added to the crushed tomatoes, and the mixture is boiled. It is left to stand for two hours before being poured into bottles. After filling, the bottles undergo labelling and a final quality-control check. In the last phase, the packaged ketchup is boxed, delivered to supermarkets, and finally ready to be served with foods such as hamburgers and fries.
