On 3 September a passenger aircraft took off from Kariba airport in Rhodesia before being struck by a missile. The plane landed in a field, those at the front of the plane were incinerated as those more towards the middle were set alight in their seats, unable to escape. Only very few managed to escape out of a hole in the back. At the crash site those that were still in one piece tried to hunt for essential supplies nearby. As they did so a group of terrorists approached the elderly, the injured and the children. They killed every single one of them in cold blood. Only eight people were rescued the following morning. White Rhodesia, whipped up into a fit of rage, demanded nothing less than the most brutal revenge. Rhodesia's revenge would be her security forces' finest hour. 1,500 terrorists were wiped out in exchange for one death of their own. https://zoomerhistorian.substack.com/p/white-rage-and-revenge-in-rhodesia

The earth, in her childlike prophetic sleep, Keeps dreaming of the bath of a storm that prepares up the long coast Of the future to scour more than her sea-lines: The cities gone down, the people fewer and the hawks more numerous, The rivers mouth to source pure; when the two-footed Mammal, being someways one of the nobler animals, regains The dignity of room, the value of rareness.
