Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Āl al-Shaykh said: It is therefore essential for the student of knowledge that the meaning of the two testimonies (ash-Shahādatayn) be clear in his heart and clear in his mind; that he understands them so well that he is able to explain them in the simplest of words, and in a variety of ways. This is because the greatest matter to which people are called is that which the two testimonies indicate. So the student of knowledge should train his tongue to explain the two testimonies using different expressions. He should memorise the evidences that establish their meaning, along with their explanation. If he disciplines himself in this manner, then, by the grace and mercy of Allah, he will see that doors will be opened for him in attaining knowledge of Tawḥīd and in expressing it eloquently. Allah, the Exalted, said: {They are those whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance.} (Sūrah al-Anʿām, 6:90) 💎 Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: Allah said: {Follow their guidance}, and He did not say: “Follow them.” This is because what truly matters is the methodology, not the individuals. Therefore, do not become fanatically attached to a caller or a reformer if he deviates from the truth. The truth is not determined by the number of men who follow it; rather, it is determined by its conformity to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Source: Al-Sharḥ al-Mumtiʿ (4/379)

All praise is for Allah. This Sharīʿah has been made clear. However, if certain matters remain unclear to a person, there are five reasons for this: 1) A lack of knowledge. 2) Deficiency in understanding. 3) Negligence in seeking knowledge. 4) Corrupt intention. Whoever possesses a corrupt intention will be prevented from being granted success. 5) Sins Sharḥ al-Uṣūl min ʿIlm al-Uṣūl – p. 350

💎 What Do the Salafīs Say About the Principle: “Whoever Does Not Declare an Innovator to Be an Innovator Is Himself an Innovator”? Shaykh Aḥmad Bāzmūl: And the Salafīs ask al-Ḥalabī: Who said, “Whoever does not declare an innovator to be an innovator is himself an innovator”? In fact, you yourself acknowledged that the Salafīs say: “We do not declare as an innovator the one who does not declare an innovator to be an innovator,” as you yourself quoted in what you called The Methodology of the Pious Predecessors. Rather, the Salafīs say that whoever praises, commends, keeps company with, and defends the people of innovation is one of them, just as the righteous predecessors explicitly stated. As for those who declare someone to be an innovator merely because he does not declare an innovator to be an innovator, they are the Ḥaddādiyyah, who declare people to be innovators without any innovation warranting it. The sincere Salafīs have confronted them over many years. Yet today, because of the severity of your injustice, O al-Ḥalabī, you attribute this doctrine to the innocent Salafīs, even though you have hardly confronted the Ḥaddādiyyah in any noteworthy way! Throughout his entire book, al-Ḥalabī never mentioned who these alleged innovators were regarding whom he differed with the senior scholars over applying the ruling of innovation to them. This is because he knows that had he mentioned their names, the people would have turned away from him and abandoned both him and his new methodology, which opposes the methodology of the righteous predecessors. Those whom al-Ḥalabī defends are well known to the students of knowledge as being among those who oppose the Salafī methodology, such as ʿAdnān ʿArʿūr, Muḥammad al-Maghrāwī, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Maʾribī, Muḥammad Ḥassān, and others who oppose the Salafī methodology and its scholars. Furthermore, the Salafī scholars did not ask you to write anything. Rather, they asked you for something far easier than writing: they asked you to remain silent from speaking falsehood. 📖 Ṣiyānat al-Salafī min Waswasati wa Talbīsāt al-Ḥalabī, p.398

Shaykh Ṣiddīq Ḥasan Khān: 💎 [How Satan Deceives Those Afflicted with Waswās (Obsessive Disorder)] Then you see one of them whom Shaytan toys with until the state he is in becomes a form of madness. He washes his hand or his face time after time, until the number reaches a level that is difficult even to keep count of, accompanied by intense scrubbing, immense hardship, and complete occupation of his mind. All the while, he knows that no severe impurity nor even a light impurity has touched that limb. Yet he remains in continuous fatigue and exhaustion, persisting in this practice. Whoever sees him has no doubt that he has scarcely any sound intellect remaining. Then, when he finally finishes washing the first limb after tremendous effort, he begins with the second limb, and then likewise with the others. Many of them enter the place of purification before the break of dawn and do not come out until after sunrise. Shaytan has not reached this degree with any of the sinners, because this person has tormented himself with a sin in which there is no pleasure for the soul nor any elevation of status. By merely exceeding three washings, he has fallen under the statement of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah send blessings and peace upon him, regarding the one who goes beyond them: ”…he has done wrong, transgressed, and committed injustice.” Thus, all three of these descriptions are combined in him. al-Rawḍah al-Nadiyyah, p. 122–123

One of the fruits of patience is that Allah, the Most High, loves those who possess it. He said: {And Allah loves the patient.} Finally, I say: If you have exerted your efforts in gentleness and good treatment towards them, together with patience, yet you do not find good results and their mistreatment of you only increases, then at that point you may inform your husband about it in order to remove the oppression. This is because Allah has forbidden oppression for Himself and has made it forbidden among His servants, as is mentioned in the ḥadīth qudsī. Likewise, Allah, the Most High, has permitted a servant to openly complain when he is wronged, and there is no harm in doing so. Allah, the Most High, said: {Allah does not like the public mention of evil speech except by one who has been wronged, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.} And Allah is the One who grants success. May Allah send blessings upon our Prophet Muḥammad, his family, and all of his Companions. Written by: Abū Furayḥān Jamāl ibn Furayḥān al-Ḥārithī, may Allah have mercy upon him. After Fajr on Friday, 1/1/1431 AH.

💎 A Beneficial Question on How The Wife Deals With Her Husband’s Family Question: A woman asks: Sometimes a wife experiences difficulties from her husband’s family, especially from his sisters or his mother. Is there any sin upon her if she informs her husband about the provocations and mistreatment she experiences from them? And what advice do you give her, may Allah bless you? The Shaykh replied: All praise is due to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon His Messenger. To proceed: Know, O wife, that life is never completely pure and free from hardship, distress, and annoyance. Such things are inevitable. A poet said: Life is pleasant only for the ignorant or the heedless, Unaware of what has passed and what is yet to come. Or for one who deceives himself regarding realities, Making himself hope for the impossible. Another poet said: Time consists of two days: one of safety and one of danger. Life consists of two states: one of ease and one of hardship. Do you not see that corpses float upon the surface of the sea, While pearls settle at its deepest depths? How many family disputes occur within households, especially between a wife and her mother-in-law. A mother may feel that this wife has taken away a piece of her heart and has become the primary recipient of her son’s attention. Out of jealousy, possessiveness, and natural self-interest, she may create problems with her son’s wife, whether consciously or unconsciously. Know, O wife, that this mother is the reason you became connected to your life partner, your companion in life, and the father of your children. Therefore, recognise her status and virtue. Be patient with whatever harm may come from her. Treat her kindly, win her over with gentleness, good character, affection, and by prioritising her comfort over your own. Strive to serve her as much as you are able. Know also that responding to harm with good treatment breaks the ego and causes the opponent to feel ashamed over time. Likewise, give her gifts from time to time, for gifts play a role in pleasing hearts and softening them. The Chosen One, may Allah send blessings and peace upon him, said: “Exchange gifts with one another and you will love one another.” Reported by al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad from the narration of Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him. It was graded ḥasan by Ibn Ḥajar in Talkhīṣ al-Ḥabīr and by al-Albānī in Irwāʾ al-Ghalīl. So if annoyances and difficulties occur as you mentioned, then be patient and do not inform your husband about every insignificant incident. Words affect hearts, and you may fill your husband’s heart with resentment towards his mother and become a cause of his disobedience towards her. I do not think that you would be pleased with such a thing for your life partner if you are sincere and loyal to him. Know that patience eventually brings good fruits, even if it takes a long time. Here I shall mention some verses concerning patience to help you in facing what you encounter in your life. Know that Allah, the Most High, grants honour and victory to those who are patient. Allah, the Most High, said: {Indeed, Allah is with the patient.} And He said: {And be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.} He, the Most High, also informed us that patience is better for those who possess it. He said: {But if you are patient, it is certainly better for those who are patient.} He, the Most High, informed us that with patience and piety, the plots of plotters cannot harm a person. He, the Mighty and Majestic, said: {And if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah encompasses all that they do.} And for you, O wife who complains about her husband’s family, there is consolation and glad tidings in the example of the Prophet of Allah, Yūsuf, peace be upon him. Allah, the Most High, said: {Indeed, whoever fears Allah and is patient, then indeed Allah does not allow the reward of the doers of good to be lost.}

📌 al-ʿAllāmah Ṣiddīq Ḥasan Khān: If only those passionately devoted to the madhhabs of the predecessors had treated him as they treat their predecessors, and had followed the path of fairness when weighing his words against theirs. However, in many situations, they give preference to their predecessors, and thus they do not refer their statements back to his statement. If his statement happens to agree with theirs, then all is well and good; but if it does not agree with them, then the saying is whatever Ḥudhām [Arabic Proverb] said. 🛑 Al-Ḥalabī said in what he called Manhaj al-Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ: “In Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb (9/131): From Abū ʿAlī al-Naysābūrī, who said: ‘I said to Ibn Khuzaymah: If the Ustādh were to narrate from Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd: for Indeed, Aḥmad has spoken well of him!’ So he said: ‘He did not know him; and had he known him as we knew him, he would never have praised him at all.’” I (al-Ḥalabī) say: So he did not say—or it was not said—about Imām Aḥmad in this matter—while acknowledging the difference between the two cases!— “Miskīn, ḍāyiʿ, māyiʿ, mutafalsif, a defender of the people of innovation!!” 🔹 I say (Shaykh Aḥmad Bāzmūl), seeking the aid of Allah, the Most High: Al-Ḥalabī uses this report as evidence that Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī, who refuted him and described him with these characteristics, possesses neither fairness nor a methodology that agrees with the Salaf. His argument is that Imām Aḥmad praised a man who had been criticised, yet Ibn Khuzaymah did not describe him as ḍāyiʿ or māyiʿ. However, al-Ḥalabī either did not understand the story, or he understood it but sought to confuse the issue. This is because the very report contains that which refutes al-Ḥalabī and invalidates his deduction. For the statement of Ibn Khuzaymah—may Allah have mercy upon him— “He did not know him; and had he known him as we knew him, he would never have praised him at all,” invalidates his argument. This is because Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī and his brothers say: whoever praises an innovator while being unaware of his condition is not declared an innovator nor declared misguided. Rather, he is informed and taught. Then, if after that he continues to praise him, he joins him, just as this is the methodology of the Salaf. Abū Dāwūd asked Imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal: “I see a man from the people of the Sunnah with a man from the people of innovation. Should I abandon speaking to him?” He replied: “No. Rather, inform him that the man whom you saw him with is a person of innovation. If he abandons speaking to him, then speak to him. Otherwise, count him as being with him. So what is being denounced regarding you, O al-Ḥalabī, is your praise of the innovators whose condition you know and whose reality you are aware of, yet you defend them and resort to false justifications on their behalf. 📖 Ṣiyānat al-Salafī min Waswasati wa Talbīsāt al-Ḥalabī (365–366)
