When an obstacle arises before a servant in fulfilling his acts of worship to Allah—including the worship of seeking knowledge— that prevents him from attaining what he intended, it is not befitting for him to surrender to it. Rather, he should strive to accomplish whatever is within his ability, by every means that leads to it, while seeking Allah's help and placing his trust in Him.

Acquire light by sending Salah upon the Prophet ﷺ so that Allah may send Salah upon you, as mentioned in the hadith from him: “Whoever sends one Salah upon me, Allah sends ten Salahs upon him in return.” And through Allah's Salah, the soul is brought out from darkness into light, as He, the Exalted, said: “It is He who sends Salah upon you, as do His angels, so that He may bring you out of darkness into light.”

Beware of turning back from striving to seek knowledge under the pretext that you are unable to attain sincerity in it. For Shaitān opens for you a door of evil with the key of seeming good counsel. You have not been commanded to abandon the pursuit; rather, you have been commanded to be patient and steadfast, to struggle and strive. For the patiently striving one has been promised success and guidance.

Being True in Your Seeking Once you realize that knowledge is a divine favor and a heavenly gift, and that Allah is the Most Generous, then consider your own state in asking Him for it. For whoever persists in knocking at the door will have it opened for him. But knocking requires sincerity. Among those who knock are some who, after arranging a meeting with someone, excuse themselves from attending by giving only a gentle knock at the door—not because they truly wish to alert him, but merely so that, if later reproached for their absence, they can say: "I came to you and knocked on the door, but you did not answer me." Thus, when the knocking is firm, it is a sign of sincerity. Whoever persistently knocks at the door of the Most Generous, with earnestness and sincerity, Allah does not turn away one who comes to Him. If a created being who is known for generosity feels ashamed to refuse one who asks of him, then Allah, Glorified is He, is far greater in generosity, more abundant in His gifts, and more bountiful in His bestowal than the most generous of all creation. The true matter, then, lies in the sincerity of one's asking and the completeness of one's turning to Him. We ask Him, Glorified and Exalted is He, to grant us perfect sincerity with Him and complete devotion in turning to Him.

A person attains knowledge only in proportion to his Ikhlās (sincerity). Knowledge is not acquired except through great hardship, yet Allah makes it easy for the one whose intention in seeking it is sincere. Therefore, the foundation of seeking knowledge is not that you possess exceptional strength in understanding or memorization. Rather, its foundation is that you are truthful in your pursuit. For with sincerity comes divine aid, support, relief, and success—things that a person cannot attain merely through his own strength, effort, toil, and striving. How many are those who labor day and night in pursuit of knowledge, yet are deprived of tawfīq. Among the greatest forms of deprivation is to be stripped of tawfīq, and among the greatest forms of assistance is to be granted ease in attaining it. This requires the servant to remain constantly connected to his Lord, paying no regard to his own abilities, and not relying upon the strength of his memory, his advancement in knowledge, or anything of that sort. For just as Allah is able to take away from you the greatest thing you possess—your faith—He is likewise able to take away the greatest means by which faith is attained: the pursuit of the Islamic knowledge. Thus, this tremendous affair is made easy only for the one for whom Allah makes it easy.

⭐️ You might find one seeking knowledge in their old age and reaching a level in knowledge that a young, intelligent person does not attain, that is because the older one turned to Allah and persistently begged for knowledge, so Allah granted him what He did not grant the younger one. ⭐️ The greatest way of acquiring knowledge is asking Allah for it. How often this meaning is absent from the minds of many when attending a lesson or memorizing a text. Whoever is guided to this way, will have things facilitated for them in ways not available to others.

What is Beneficial Knowledge The author (ibn Rajab), may Allah have mercy on him, explained that the knowledge which is desired and in which blessing is sought is the inner knowledge that brings about reverence (khashiyah) and fear (khawf) of Allah, and submission to Him. This is because it is the knowledge that directly engages the hearts, illuminating their darkness and softening their hardness, bringing them closer to their Lord. This is the description of beneficial knowledge. Beneficial knowledge is the knowledge that directly impacts the heart, leading its possessor to goodness. Any knowledge that does not have this characteristic is not beneficial knowledge. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ guided us to ask for beneficial knowledge and to seek refuge from its opposite. It is narrated in Sunan al-Kubra by an-Nasa’i and in Sunan Ibn Majah with a Hasan chain of narration that he said: “Ask Allah for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with Allah from knowledge that does not benefit.” In this hadith, there is guidance indicating that some knowledge is beneficial and some is not, and that the greatest goal is knowledge that benefits. The most despicable knowledge is that which does not benefit. The blessing of knowledge lies in its benefit, not in its accumulation. Its benefit is not merely in acquiring it but in its direct impact on the heart, causing that heart to develop fearful reverence, brokenness, submissiveness, and turning towards Allah. As for the knowledge that does not reach the core of the heart and does not perform its function within it, but rather flows merely on the tongue, it is a proof for Allah against the son of Adam. As the Prophet ﷺ has said as narrated in the Sahih: “The Qur'an is a proof for you or against you.” It will be a proof for you if it guides you to act according to its demands, and it will be a proof against you if it is merely on your tongue without touching your heart, having no effect of reverence, humility, repentance, fear and turning towards Allah, the Almighty.

The merit in knowledge is not in memorizing and understanding information; rather, true knowledge is what the heart contains of turning to Allah, perfect devotion to Him, and following His Messenger ﷺ.

Whoever seeks knowledge must commit himself to striving. Whoever thinks that clinging to comfort will bring him comfort is mistaken. It is said: Seeking comfort lies in abandoning comfort.

Until We Meet Allah: Persevering in the Pursuit of Knowledge Know, O brothers, that all of us—whether teaching or learning—must recognize that we are in state through which we seek closeness to Allah. It is the station of knowledge and clarification. When hearts are truly aware of this meaning, their journey upon this path becomes strong and steady. But heedlessness of these meanings weakens the heart. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Whoever sees the path as too long, his walking along it will weaken.” But the one who treads this path knowing he will not reach the end of it until he meets Allah, then this driver will continue to spur him on, strengthen him, and inspire him with perseverance on the path. It was said to Ibn al-Mubarak: "O Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman, until when will you continue writing hadith?" He replied: "Perhaps the hadith through which I will enter Paradise, I have not written it yet." So perhaps the word that will awaken you from your heedlessness, alert you from your slumber, and remind you of your duty—you have not heard it yet. Whoever understands this fundamental principle will remain engaged with knowledge at all times and in every moment.

Al-Ghafiqi narrated with a sound chain from Ibn ʿUyaynah regarding the interpretation of Allah’s saying: ﴿وَجَعَلَني مُبارَكًا أَينَ ما كُنتُ﴾ “And He made me blessed wherever I may be” Ibn ʿUyaynah said: It means: a teacher of goodness. Ibn al-Qayyim said: “The beneficial one is the blessed one, and the most beneficial of things are the most blessed. A blessed person among people is the one from whom others benefit wherever he is.”

One of us rejoices when a created being takes responsibility for fulfilling his need, but the joy of the one who relies upon Allah through his reliance on Him is far greater; because the One who has taken charge of fulfilling his need is the Creator, the One capable of all things. Allah said: _“And rely upon Allah, and sufficient is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.”_ And He said: _“And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him.”_ How blessed is the life of those who place their trust in Allah.

From the blossoms gathered from Rawḍat al-Muḥibbīn: "Whoever truly knows Allah, life becomes pure for him, his existence becomes pleasant, everything holds him in awe, fear of creatures departs from him, he finds intimacy with Allah and estrangement from people. This knowledge of Allah bequeaths to him modesty before Allah, reverence for Him, veneration, vigilance of Him, love for Him, reliance upon Him, turning to Him in repentance, contentment with Him, and complete submission to His command."

The Rewards of Sending Salat and Salam upon the Prophet ﷺ The hadith of Abu Huraira in Sahih Muslim states: "Whoever sends one salat upon me, Allah will send ten salat upon him." The hadith of Anas in Sunan An-Nasa’i states: "Whoever sends one salat upon me, Allah will send ten salat upon him, forgive ten sins from him, and raise him ten ranks." The hadith of Abu Huraira in Ahmad's Musnad says: "Whoever sends one salat upon me, Allah will write ten good deeds for him because of it." From this, it is understood that whoever sends one salat upon the Prophet ﷺ gains four rewards: 1.  Allah will send ten salat upon him. 2.  Allah will write ten good deeds for him. 3.  Allah will erase ten sins from him. 4.  Allah will raise him ten ranks because of it. This is the best that has been narrated regarding the virtue of sending salat upon the Prophet ﷺ, and it is a combination of the reports of Abu Huraira in Sahih Muslim and the report of Anas in Ahmad and An-Nasa’i, along with similar narrations. These rewards are achieved by sending the salat with the least wording that fulfills it. If a person says, "May Allah send blessings upon Muhammad," (salla Allahu 'ala Muhammad) they receive the reward because they have fulfilled the command and have sent one salat upon the Prophet ﷺ. If they pair it with salam and say, "May Allah send blessings and peace upon him," it becomes more complete. If they pair it with what has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ and say: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim," the reward is even greater. If they further add: "And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim," the reward becomes even greater. The greatness here lies in the weight of the good deed, the weight of the sin erased, and the weight and the greatness of the degree elevated. Thus, if one says, "May Allah send blessings upon Muhammad," (salla Allahu 'ala Muhammad) they have achieved the reward. However, the reward in terms of quality, becomes greater if they say "May Allah send blessings and peace upon him," (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) and if they increase the wording, the reward increases in quality, not in quantity.

Finest Works on the Love of Allah Abu Al-Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah, his student Ibn Al-Qayyim, and his grandson in discipleship, Abu Al-Faraj Ibn Rajab, have astonishingly excelled in this field (love of Allah). These three individuals are among the best of the scholars of Ahl us-Sunnah who have spoken on spiritual conduct and heart softeners, on love for Allah and its effects. Ibn Taymiyyah singled out numerous principles, many of which are found and his writings (on the topic) are scattered in his works like “Al-Tuhfah tul-Iraqiyyah.” Likewise, his student Ibn Al-Qayyim has scattered discussions, and has a dedicated book; “Rawdah tul-Muhibbeen.” As for Ibn Rajab, he has several scattered discussions as well as a dedicated book; “Istinshaq Naseem ul-Uns.” It is advisable for seekers of knowledge to peruse the writings of these scholars on the subject of love, as love is the greatest motivator towards obedience and avoidance of disobedience. Reading them strengthens the soul and encourages steadfastness in obedience and deters from disobedience.
