Monachopsis ☕️🕯️

In the midst of crowded rooms and familiar faces, I couldn’t escape the sense of monachopsis, as though I were a stranger in a life I had long since outgrown.

«Self-love will never be a substitute for romantic love»
Today, I find myself grappling with the complexities of love and self-worth as a 17-year-old girl in a world that seems obsessed with romantic relationships. Everywhere I look, I'm bombarded with images and messages romanticising love—movies, songs, social media feeds—all painting a picture of happiness and fulfilment that seems just out of reach. It's easy to feel like everyone around me has found their perfect match, leaving me to wonder if there's something wrong with me for not experiencing the same.
At times, it feels like romantic love is the ultimate validation of my worth as a person. It's as if society has placed a premium on being in a relationship, equating it with success and happiness. As a result, I can't help but internalise the message that being single equates to being incomplete or undesirable. It's a painful reminder that despite my achievements and strengths, I'm still lacking something crucial.
I often think about a quote from the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower: "We accept the love we think we deserve." This speaks volumes about how our sense of self-worth influences the relationships we pursue. If we believe ourselves to be unworthy or flawed, we might settle for relationships that reinforce those feelings. Conversely, if we truly understand our values and embrace self-love, we open ourselves to more fulfilling and respectful connections. This quote tells us that the quality of love we accept is often a mirror of our self-perception, making self-worth a crucial component of our relationship choices. By fostering a healthier relationship with ourselves, we pave the way for healthier, more genuine connections with others.
However oftentimes, I'm reminded of a fundamental truth: self-love will never be a substitute for romantic love. It's a harsh reality to confront, especially when it feels like everyone else has found their happily ever after. Yet, I know deep down that true happiness and fulfilment can only come from within—from learning to love and accept myself unconditionally, regardless of my relationship status.
That's not to say that I don't yearn for love and companionship. Like anyone else, I crave the connection and intimacy that comes with romantic relationships. But I also recognise the danger of placing my worth and happiness solely in the hands of another person. It's a precarious position to be in, one that leaves me vulnerable to heartbreak and disappointment if things don't go as planned.
However, it’s essential to recognise that connections with others are a fundamental part of the human experience. Social bonds and relationships are crucial for our survival and well-being. They provide support, companionship, and a sense of belonging that enriches our lives. Yet, these connections cannot replace the most vital relationship of all—the one we have with ourselves.
Our interactions with others are deeply influenced by how we view ourselves.
Repost from 𝗔𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲
A girl isn’t above others unless it’s by her mind.
We’re all emotional by nature but not everyone knows how to control it
The one who protects her feelings isn’t like the one who throws them around.
And the one who’s careful with what she gives isn’t like the one who gives it all away.
No one compares to the girl who knows when to give and to whom and when to hold back and from whom.
This whole life is nonsense
We live in a contradictory and corrupt world
Whoever lacks awareness or understanding
is the only one who will survive
As for the rest
they will be struck by the curse of awareness
the curse of war
the curse of poverty
the curse of hunger
While the one who sleeps peacefully beside his family
unaware of what’s happening beyond the walls of his room
he alone lives in peace
Maybe I’ll die but it just won’t
and it seems like we’ll both end up dying without anyone even knowing
My mind and heart can’t accept, adapt, or adjust.
I just want to leave.
”before understanding, an infinite number of shining fragments appear. We must despair of the possibility of rebuilding the familiar, calm surface that could grant us peace of heart. After all these centuries of questioning, and all these examples of thinkers who have renounced life, we clearly realize that this applies to all our knowledge. Except for professional analysts, people today have come to despair of true knowledge. And if the only meaningful record of human thought were to be written, it would have to be a history of its successive regrets rather than its achievements.
I said that the world has no glory, but I was too hasty. All that can be said is that this world is absurd. But absurdity lies in confronting this lack of reason and the wild yearning for clarity that echoes in the human heart.
That longing for unity and that thirst for the absolute clarify the fundamental drive behind the human drama. However, the mere fact that this longing exists does not mean it will be satisfied immediately. For if we establish, alongside Parmenides, the truth of the One (whatever that One may be), filling the gap between desire and fulfillment, we will fall into the ridiculous contradiction of a mind that asserts absolute unity while, by its own assertion, revealing its own contradiction—just as it exposes the diversity it claims to have resolved. This other vicious cycle is enough to stifle our hopes.
”On certain evenings, when the heart finds rest..how can I deny this world whose energy and force I can feel? And yet, all the knowledge available on Earth gives me nothing to confirm that this world belongs to me. You describe it to me, you teach me how to classify it. You count its laws, and in my thirst for knowledge, I acknowledge them as truth. You explain its mechanisms separately, and my hope grows. Then, in the final stage, you teach me that this marvelous universe, filled with countless colors, can be reduced to an atom, and that the atom itself can be reduced to an electron. All of this is fine, and I wait for you to continue.
But then, you tell me about an invisible cosmic order in which electrons are drawn toward a nucleus. You explain this world to me in images, and at that moment, I realize you have reduced yourself to poetry: and that I will never truly know. Do I even have the time to be upset? You have changed the theories, so that the science which was supposed to teach me everything has ended in mere hypotheses. Clarity stumbles upon analogy, and uncertainty is answered by artistic expression. So, what use is all this effort to me? The soft contours of these hills, the evening’s touch on this restless heart..these teach me more.
I have returned to my starting point. I realize that even if I grasp all phenomena and count them through science, I still cannot understand the world. Even if I could touch its entire essence with my fingers, I would know no more. You offer me a choice between a description that is certain yet teaches me nothing, and hypotheses that claim to teach me, yet are uncertain.
A stranger to myself and to the world, armed only with a mind that negates itself the moment it attempts to affirm anything..what is this condition in which I can only find peace by refusing both to know and to live? In which the urge for conquest is spent against walls that defy its assaults? To desire is to provoke contradictions. Everything is arranged in such a way that it leads to that poisoned peace born of thoughtlessness, indifference, the sleep of the heart, and the deadly withdrawal from life.
Thus, even reason itself tells me in its own way that this world is without glory. As for the opposite of reason..that blind intellect..it may well claim that everything is clear. I had been waiting for proof, hoping that it would be true.

the myth of sisyphus || albert camus.
This book explores absurdist philosophy and examines the idea that life may be meaningless.
However, a person can find happiness in confronting this absurdity, much like Sisyphus, who was condemned to roll a rock up a mountain repeatedly.
