The mother starts noticing strange behavior in her son and investigates the school to have the teacher removed from classes. But later, it will be revealed that everything is not as she imagined. "Monster" is a film about the subjectivity of reality perception and people's inability to see the world as another person sees it. The second half of the film is loosely related to reality interpretations and tells the story of very close, more than friendly, relationships between two boys. Hirokazu Koreeda is rightfully considered one of the brightest directors in Japan. However, all her efforts are in vain when her sixteen-year-old son Ettore learns that his mother used to be a prostitute, and he gradually starts spiraling down a slippery path. The film is based on the personal dramatic experiences of the director, who arrived in Rome from his native province of Friuli. In the eternal city, he was struck not by the majestic beauty of the ancient center, but by the harsh customs of the inhabitants of the outskirts, where the film's action takes place. "Samsara," translated from Sanskrit, means "wandering, roaming," and in a broader sense, according to Indian philosophy, it signifies the cycle of birth and death in worlds limited by karma. The film took 5 years to prepare: 4 years for shooting in 25 countries around the world and one year for final editing. Throughout the film, Balinese dance is replaced by Buddhist prayer, sand-covered abandoned factories are juxtaposed with meat production conveyor belts, and the attributes of a sex shop are contrasted with scenes of weapon manufacturing. The film features monks and criminals, prostitutes and soldiers, the elderly and infants, mothers and fathers, birth and death... His uncle is convinced that the musical harmony that arose in the 17th century thanks to the composer Andreas Werkmeister and has persisted to this day is incorrect and false. According to him, if there is no true harmony in music, then there is no harmony in the world, in the existence of an individual, or in the life of a provincial Hungarian town. Yanos sees that an atmosphere of fear, hatred, and madness is thickening around him, and that the city is on the verge of a great inevitable disaster… From an interview with the director: — Do you consider yourself a pessimist? — Not at all! А если нет настоящей гармонии в музыке — ее нет и в мире, и в существовании отдельного человека, и в жизни провинциального венгерского городка. Янош видит, что вокруг сгущается атмосфера страха, ненависти и безумия, что город — на пороге большой неотвратимой беды… Из интервью с режиссёром: — Вы считаете себя пессимистом? — Отнюдь! Я счастлив, когда кто-то мне говорит: «Ваш фильм печален и депрессивен, но он полон энергии и силы, которые сделали меня счастливым». Будь я пессимистом, я бы не снимал кино!
