🔥Tomorrow, Saturday 24th of June, our big demonstration under the name “Peoples’ Parade” will take place!🔥 We meet at 13.30 at the Kaserne, carry our messages to the city and finally to the doors of the tower of the Bank for International Settlement (BIS). The demonstration is authorised. 🌏 In the focus of the parade stand the experiences of the people who fight against fossil fuels and for the preservation of their livelihoods in Uganda, Argentina Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Senegal, the Phillippines and other places. Th have joined forces and are currently in Basel. Here they are demanding that the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) stops financing fossil energy. 💶 Central bank governors from around the world are currently meeting at the BIS to discuss the rules of the global financial system. They are setting global standards and will hold their general assembly this Sunday. The BIS has already defined crypto investments as high-risk: Banks that invest in such assets have to pay for possible losses themselves. 📆 Review of the first day of the Forum & Outlook for the programme of the 23 of June Today, over 100 participants kicked off the first day of the Basel Forum for Climate Justice & Financial Regulation. 🎊 In the opening plenary, the 13 delegates from Frontline Communities shared stories about their struggles. Afterwards, we discussed the multifaceted problem we’re tackling, namely global heating, the destruction of the commons, environmental and social impacts, violence against communities and environmental defenders, energy dependence and precarization.
