From: DVC(Acad) To: All Heads of Departments and Deans Subject: Implementation of 5-point grading system in the University of Ibadan This is to formally notify you that the implementation of the 5-point grading system started in the University for the 2024/2025 session in April, 2025. Please be further informed that the Senate of University of Ibadan already approved the 5-point grade. For the avoidance of doubt, pass mark is now 40%, not 45% again. Also be reminded that CCMAS is now being implemented with the current 100 level students. Other detailed information on the 5-point grading system is shown below: Level of Performance Rating: 5.00-Point (Credit Points Per Unit) Letter Grade Marks (%) Grade Points A (70 – 100%) 5 B (60 – 69%) 4 C (50 – 59%) 3 D (45 – 49%) 2 E (40 – 44%) 1 F (0 – 39%) 0 Final Assessment and Classes of Degree: A student who has satisfactorily completed all requirements for the degree with CGPA of not less than 1.50 may be awarded an Honours degree as follows: CUMULATIVE GPA CLASS OF DEGREE: 4.50 - 5.00 = First Class (Honours) 3.50 - 4.49 = 2nd Class Upper (Honours) 2.50 - 3.49 = 2nd Class Lower (Honours) 1.50 - 2.49 = 3rd Class (Honours) 1.00 - 1.49 = Pass (Without Honours) Thank you.
