[Bitfinex says BTC holds up despite AI stock sell-off and rate-hike concerns]
Bitfinex said in a report that Bitcoin has continued to trade sideways above bear-market lows despite several headwinds, including rising expectations for interest rate hikes, higher bond yields and a sell-off in AI-related stocks, according to CoinDesk.
The report said many had feared a steeper decline, but Bitcoin has remained range-bound, which it attributed to positioning. It added that the crypto market fell less than leveraged equity themes as capital tied to forced selling had already been exhausted. A large share of leveraged positions was liquidated in late June, the report said, limiting forced selling during the recent spike in volatility. Investors are now watching U.S. employment data and clearer Federal Reserve policy guidance, while also focusing on whether inflows into Bitcoin ETFs resume, it added.

[Paper on 7 past BTC liquidation events says individual crashes are hard to predict]
A paper posted on arXiv analyzed seven past large-scale Bitcoin liquidation events and found it is difficult to predict any individual crash in advance, according to CryptoSlate.
The paper said no data on price, leverage, or order flow provided advance warning of the liquidation events. In six of the seven cases, lower volatility in market orders was commonly observed, but the researchers interpreted that only as a weak sign of markets turning quiet just before a sell-off and said it was insufficient as a reliable signal for predicting the timing of the next crash. On price action, five of the seven cases showed warning signs of slowing upward momentum, while the other two were triggered by sudden external events such as tariff shocks, with no such signals appearing. The paper added that while certain market patterns do recur before sharp Bitcoin declines, accurately forecasting the next liquidation-driven plunge using any single indicator remains very difficult. It also said conventional price- or leverage-based warning signals may offer little help when liquidation events are driven by unexpected external shocks such as macroeconomic news or policy announcements.

[Bitcoin hashrate declines for about 287 days, difficulty down 19.9% from peak]
Bitcoin’s hashrate has been in decline for about 287 days, while mining difficulty is down 19.9% from its record high, Bitcoin Magazine reported.
The outlet said that despite Bitcoin falling about 46% over the past year, shares of some publicly listed miners have risen more than 430%. Bitcoin Magazine attributed the divergence to a strategic shift by mining companies toward allocating power and data center capacity to AI and high-performance computing, with the market increasingly viewing them as AI infrastructure companies rather than simply Bitcoin miners.

[Analysis finds HYPE support fund buybacks running at twice team selling pace]
MLM Monitor said 4.93 million HYPE team tokens unlocked in December 2025 were distributed to team members, equal to about $270 million at current prices and 0.493% of total supply. Of that amount, 1.19 million HYPE was sold on the open market for $32.5 million in cash, while another 3.14 million HYPE was transferred to an OTC platform, with a transfer value of about $132 million. As a result, about 4.33 million HYPE was sold for roughly $165 million in total, with average monthly sales of about 540,000 HYPE, or around $20.6 million.
Over the same period, the ecosystem support fund spent about $364 million to buy back roughly 9.8 million HYPE, according to MLM Monitor. That puts the average monthly buyback at about 1.23 million HYPE, or around $46 million, marking a repurchase pace about twice as fast as the selling rate of current and former team members.

[STS CEO says options selling, AI and regulation delays hinder next crypto rally]
STS Digital CEO Maxime Seiler said institutional options selling, artificial intelligence and delayed U.S. crypto regulation are holding back the next crypto bull market, according to CoinDesk.
Seiler said those three factors are capping crypto prices even as institutional investors have steadily adopted blockchain technology over the past four years. Meaningful gains in the crypto market will require multiple catalysts to align at once, Seiler added, including regulatory clarity, broad institutional investment in 24-hour financial infrastructure, and a more supportive macro environment such as interest-rate cuts or a resumption of monetary easing. While Seiler said he does not expect that setup to emerge in the coming months, he added the market is underestimating the pace of institutional crypto adoption and how quickly traditional finance is applying crypto infrastructure to global capital markets.

[Lummis says Trump asset-sale clause in CLARITY Act revision complicates talks]
Sen. Cynthia Lummis said the latest draft of the CLARITY Act under discussion includes an ethics provision requiring President Donald Trump to sell digital assets he holds or place them in a blind trust, and said the measure has emerged as a key sticking point in last-minute negotiations, according to Pitelity Investment.
Lummis added many Democratic lawmakers remain reluctant to move the bill forward, citing concerns the provision could weaken a midterm campaign frame centered on Trump’s cryptocurrency-related corruption. Supporters of the bill, meanwhile, have stressed the amendment also includes ethics standards for the president, vice president, members of Congress and the federal judiciary, while adding protections for investors in the event of a crypto exchange bankruptcy and establishing a clearer regulatory framework.
