This sculpture, titled “Broken” by artist George Triggs, was created for the Museum of Broken Relationships in London.

It portrays a seated figure slowly cracking apart, fragments of its outer shell scattered at its feet.. as if pieces of the self are quietly falling away. 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄…🤍🍃 When someone asks you how life is going, you say, “Good.” But in reality, you’re suffering. Struggling. Going through things you never talk about. And when someone says, “I love my life,” you feel like you hate yours. because it failed you, broke you, made you so vulnerable that you started hating life itself. But it’s not life that failed you. It’s not life that broke you. It’s people. It’s the people in our lives who failed us when we trusted them the most. The people who broke our hearts when we believed they would cherish them. The people who made us suffer and the same people we once loved, who made us hate love itself. So stop hating your life. Because it’s the same life that keeps you going. The same life that gives you hope when you feel hopeless and helpless. The same life that keeps you alive when you think about ending it. It’s the same life when you’re walking down the street and smile at a child smiling back at you or at a cat or dog doing something silly. It’s the same life that makes you realize how ungrateful you feel when you see a child in dirty clothes, with innocent eyes, begging on the road. when you still have a life to live. It’s the same life when you cry in tears, looking at the sky, and the cold breeze touches you and whispers, “Everything will be fine.” And you feel better because it’s life that always holds onto you when no one else does. No one. So stop hating on your life. Because it’s life that gave you a life to live, to keep going, to move on. It teaches you lessons so you won’t repeat the same mistakes. It shows you people’s true intentions when you trust them blindly, and helps you rediscover your worth, the worth you lost while loving people who made you hate yourself and your life. So stop blaming your life for what people did. Stop complaining about mistakes you made. Just sit. Hold your own hand. Take a deep breath. In another universe, I meet my father when he is a child. We play catch in the woods and as we play he tells me he isn't allowed to cry but sometimes the world hurts him and he doesn't know what to do with all that pain. So I give him the shoulder he needs to cry on. And he does. He does until the tears are done. Afterwards, I buy him ice cream and I listen to his laugh, the glowing warm laugh of a child who knows he is safe. I wish someone could have done that for him.
