Blood and Faith

Estonian participation in the russo-japanese war numerous Estonians fought on the Russian side. Among the cadre officers of the Tsarist army were several future Estonian army generals, including Jaan Soots, Aleksander Tõnisson, Ernst Põdder, and Johannes Orasmaa. Nearly a thousand Estonians served in the Russian forces in the Far East after the war broke out, with over half stationed at Port Arthur and in the fleet. The largest contingent of Estonians, totaling 7,500 men, were mobilized as reserve soldiers in the summer and autumn of 1904. Tragically, the heaviest losses among Estonians occurred in battles like Shahe, where over 3,000 men from the 1st Army Corps, mainly mobilized from Tartumaa and Virumaa, perished. Estonians also suffered significant casualties in the Battle of Mukden, where more than 500 were killed.

Happy Victory Day! The Battle of Cēsis, also known as the Battle of Võnnu, took place on June 23, 1919, during the Latvian War of Independence. It was fought between the Latvian army, supported by Estonian forces, and the Baltische Landeswehr, a German paramilitary unit supporting the Baltic nobility and German interests. The battle resulted in a decisive victory for the Latvian-Estonian forces, marking a significant turning point in the war. The defeat of the Baltische Landeswehr weakened German influence in the region and contributed to the eventual establishment of Independence. Now it is granted a full holiday in Estonia making it our Victory Day!

At 3:40 AM on June 22, 1941, in the skies over Lviv, the war against the Soviets and the great liberation of Europe from the red plague was started - by an ethnic Ukrainian, an ace pilot with the rank of Luftwaffe lieutenant, commander of a Messerschmitt BF 109E squadron, and the son of a mining engineer from Donbas region, Robert Oliynyk (ger. Robert Olejnik). He scored his first victory on the Eastern Front over a Soviet I-16 fighter. All soldiers, who fought and who were lost during the war, are heroes, never forgotten. @FaithAndBlood
