Tents were reportedly set ablaze following the strikes in what the Palestinian agency called a “massacre”. The strikes come as the US confirms it has continued to send weapons to Israel, save for the one shipment of 2,000-pound bombs it is currently reviewing.

🗞️ Two top Democrat holdouts in US Congress have put their support behind an $18bn sale of 50 F-15 fighter jets to Israel, lifting the last remaining hurdle for the sale to move forward, several major newspapers have reported. Editors on Wikipedia have voted to label the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as "generally unreliable" regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported on Tuesday. As a result the ADL is being added to a list of sources that are either banned or partially restricted. A majority of editors also voted to deem the organisation unreliable on the topic of antisemitism because it acts primarily as a pro-Israel organisation tending to label legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitism. 🔗 Tap the link for more on this story https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/wikipedia-votes-declare-adl-unreliable-israel-and-antisemitism-report?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social_traffic

Over 1.8 million pilgrims from around the world braved scorching temperatures to partake in this year’s Hajj. This year’s summer timing for the annual pilgrimage, saw temperatures in and around Mecca climb towards 51 degrees Celsius, testing the endurance of worshippers during the mostly outdoor ritual. Authorities in Saudi Arabia repeatedly warned pilgrims to take measures to protect themselves from sweltering temperatures after scores of pilgrims died of sunstroke during the annual five-day ritual. Carrying umbrellas to shield themselves from the sun, medical staff, policemen and volunteers conducted foot patrols with thousands of paramedics on standby to treat cases of heatstroke, dehydration and exhaustion during the pilgrimage. The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and must be undertaken at least once by all adult Muslims with the financial means.

📰 It was in November last year when Grammy award-winning pop star Dua Lipa and other celebrities were named in a viral Israeli drill rap threatening them with violence for speaking up for Palestinians amid Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip. Months later, Lipa says she is willing to face backlash over her opposition to the war for the “greater good”. “When I speak about things that are political, I double-, triple-check myself to be: ‘OK, this is about something that is way bigger than me, and it’s necessary – and that’s the only reason I’m posting it’,” she told the Radio Times on Tuesday. “It’s always going to be met with a backlash and other people’s opinions, so it’s a big decision. I balance it out, because ultimately I feel it’s for the greater good, so I’m willing to [take that hit],” she said. 🔗 Read more: https://www.middleeasteye.net/trending/dua-lipa-says-willing-risk-taking-hit-criticising-israel-war-on-gaza?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social_traffic

📰 The Israeli army and intelligence services had detailed knowledge of Hamas’s plan to attack Israel and take captives weeks before the 7 October attack, a newly surfaced document reveals. A report by Israel’s Kan News says the report, titled “Detailed End-to-End Raid Training”, was compiled by the Israeli army’s Gaza Division, distributed on 19 September 2023, and was known to top intelligence officials. The document went through Hamas’s intentions and described in detail the series of exercises conducted by the Palestinian group’s elite units. Kan says the exercises included simulated raids on military posts and kibbutzim, the kidnapping of soldiers and civilians, as well as how to keep the captives once they had entered Gaza. The document even reportedly included “the number of civilians and soldiers that Hamas planned to kidnap”. 🔗 Read more: https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israeli-army-knew-hamas-plans-report-finds?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social_traffic

A senior doctor from Gaza died while under Shin Bet investigation in November, six days after Israeli forces arrested him from the Palestinian enclave, Haaretz reports. Dr Iyad Rantisi, 53, was the head of a women’s hospital as part of the Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. He was arrested on 11 November and declared dead six days later at Shikma Prison, a Shin Bet interrogation facility. Haaretz says that following Rantisi’s death, “Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court issued a six-month gag order prohibiting publication of all details of the case, including the existence of the gag order”. The order expired in May. Dr Husam Abu Safia, the manager of the Kamal Adwan hospital, said that Rantisi was arrested at a military checkpoint as he was trying to cross from the north to the south of Gaza following the Israeli army’s evacuation orders. Rantisi is the second known case of a Gaza physician dying in Israeli prisons.
