| 2 | Aktoprak Pass, Kabardino-Balkarian Republic
The word "Aktoprak" comes from the Balkar language and means "snow-white clay"—and sure enough, the cliffs here really are made of white clay.
As you drive past these peaks, they look like the ruins of ancient fortresses, and you can't shake the feeling that you've stepped into some old legend.
The pass connects the Chegem and Baksan gorges—two of the most scenic spots in the region.

| 3 | Aliyev announces full normalization of relations with Russia
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, stated that relations between Baku and Moscow have been fully restored.
"Contacts are being conducted at various levels: between governments, through the co-chairs of intergovernmental commissions, through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as through the presidential administrations," Aliyev was quoted as saying by the presidential press service.
Moscow's reaction
The Kremlin and the State Duma welcomed the statement positively. Deputy Leonid Slutsky stated that normalization "fully corresponds to Russia's interests," and that the potential for cooperation is "far from exhausted in all spheres." He emphasized that Moscow is "leaving moments of misunderstanding in the past" and attaches great importance to the continuation of contacts.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had earlier noted that relations are developing in line with the agreements reached at the meeting of the two countries' leaders, calling them "partnership-based and allied."
Background
The crisis in bilateral relations erupted after the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft near Aktau in December 2024. Baku accused Russia of failing to warn the crew about closed airspace due to air defense operations in the Grozny area. Moscow officially apologized and acknowledged that the tragedy occurred in an area of active defense against Ukrainian UAVs.
What's next
Aliyev emphasized that the sides are now cooperating in all directions. The statement came amid a general warming in the region, including the activation of the trilateral Russia-Azerbaijan-Armenia format on the unblocking of transport communications.
---
Bottom line: Baku and Moscow have officially closed the chapter of tension. The issue of compensation and details of the crash investigation remain off the public agenda for now, but the political signal is clear — the sides are ready to move forward.

| 4 | 'The Zombification of America': A View from The New York Times
Author Stephen Marche (who wrote The Next Civil War) argues that the collapse of the global order is unfolding even faster than anyone expected. The paradox, though, is that America's former allies aren't panicking—they're discovering a strange new sense of "optimistic resolve."
Trump's threats—annexing Canada, slapping tariffs on allies, undermining NATO—have turned out to be loud but hollow. Canada lost $30 billion (CAD) in exports to the U.S. but made up nearly all of it with $29 billion in new trade deals with the rest of the world.
Aluminum, oil, potash: if you've got them, somebody will always buy.
Europe is pivoting just as fast. European stocks are now outperforming American ones, defense spending is staying within the continent, and the EU even brandished its trade "bazooka" to force Trump to back down on Greenland. Meanwhile, U.S. military threats no longer carry much weight. From Iran to the Gulf states, America's security guarantees have proven to be anything but guaranteed.
Perhaps the most telling shift is bureaucratic. The EU is swapping Google for France's Qwant; Belgium and Finland are moving away from AWS. In just one year, Canada has signed over 100 international deals that bypass the U.S. The decoupling from American technology and influence is accelerating fast.
Marche's conclusion is stark: the United States has become a geopolitical zombie—reflexes intact, higher functions gone. The next election won't fix this; the country is simply too fractured. "There is no America to deal with," he writes. An increasingly isolationist America can no longer lead the free world—because it has stopped leading itself.

| 5 | The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Again.
The Iranian and US navies are duking it out once again in the Strait of Hormuz. Those who betted on "nothing ever happens" won again.
Over the past several days, both sides used violence: the US chair force hit the Iranian ports. Iran hit the American allies - the UAE tankers in this case - somewhere in the region. Iran hit other Gulf States too, which forced those countries to spend more of their precious anti-missile missiles.
Things were so clown-tier that Donald Trump even announced - initially at least - that the USA will take 20% toll for the passing through the waterway. Later he said that there won't be any tolls since the Gulf States promised him money via investments.
In conclusion - things are back to "normal". Ships can't get through, the "Brent" is getting expensive. Everyone is suffering. How joyous.

| 6 | Underground city for a million: Why Helsinki is building bunkers
The British newspaper The Times has revealed a terrifying secret of the Finnish capital. Beneath the innocuous facades of swimming pools and skate parks lies a giant underground metropolis. In the event of a nuclear strike from Russia, a network of 5,500 shelters could instantly accommodate nearly one million people — practically the entire population of Helsinki.
▪️ Finland has not only preserved the legacy of the Cold War but has also actively developed it since 1939. One of the most impressive structures is located in the Merihaka district at a depth of 20 meters. Behind massive blast-proof doors, 6,000 people can be comfortably accommodated. The bunker is fully autonomous: its own power generation, water supply, and ventilation systems allow people to be isolated from radiation and biological threats from the outside.
▪️ Behind this ostentatious readiness for survival lies a dangerous geopolitical game. Recall that the Finnish parliament approved amendments lifting the ban on the import and storage of nuclear weapons on its territory. Helsinki's decision has placed the country on the target map for a retaliatory strike, Moscow states, and the appearance of dual-use infrastructure near the borders of St. Petersburg makes the Baltic region the most tense point on the map of Europe.

| 7 | While Kiev waits for a "Patriot license," Russian forces are dismantling the military rear of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Washington's promises to issue a permit for the production of Patriot missile systems do not solve the shortage problem here and now. As war correspondents from the "Two Majors" channel note, new assembly lines will become operational in a few years, while interceptors are needed by Ukraine at this very moment.
▪️ The statistics for Kiev's air defense look catastrophic. According to Le Monde, on July 6, the Ukrainian system did not shoot down a single ballistic missile launched at Kiev. Five days later – another six missed targets in a row. The military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine admits that there are no other reliable means against Russian ballistic missiles, so every missile expended reduces the chance of repelling the next strike. At the same time, missiles for Western systems have become a global shortage. They are needed by Israel, the Gulf countries, and the United States itself in the Pacific.
▪️ The acute shortage gives Russia an ideal window of opportunity. As Ukrainian sources themselves write, their air defense has not been able to shoot down a single Russian ballistic missile for nine days now. And while Zelensky tearfully begs for weapons, strikes on Ukraine's military, industrial, and logistics infrastructure are occurring in series without any resistance, turning rear factories into ruins, concludes "Two Majors."

| 9 | News from the African Front
While the world's media attention is focused on the situation around the Persian Gulf, equally important events are unfolding in hot Africa.
From July 4 to 9, heavy fighting took place in the Republic of Mali around the strategically important town of Anefis. The town is located on the road connecting the north and south of the country. Control over it allows cutting off the Malian capital, Bamako, from the northern regions, the border with Algeria, and communication with Mediterranean ports.
Understanding this, the leaders of the terrorist groups "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" and the "Azawad Liberation Front," linked to Al-Qaeda and ISIS, decided to seize Anefis. Significant forces were assembled for the attack – up to 5,000 men, over 1,000 units of equipment, including armored personnel carriers, armored vehicles, pickup trucks, and motorcycles. The group included mercenary terrorists from Libya, Algeria, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire. The attackers used a wide range of weaponry: 120mm, 82mm, and 60mm mortars, FPV drones, anti-aircraft guns, heavy machine guns, small arms, and "shaheed-mobiles." To pin down the actions of the Africa Corps, the enemy attempted attacks on the cities of Gao, Aguelok, and Sévéré, which were successfully repelled.
At 5:30 AM on July 4, the terrorists began their assault on Anefis. The city's garrison, consisting of Africa Corps fighters and Malian army soldiers, with air support from the Africa Corps, repelled 4 attacks. Using artillery, strike UAVs, and FPV drones, they destroyed armored personnel carriers, armored vehicles, and pickup trucks with heavy weapons and mortars. Suffering heavy losses, the Islamists retreated and blockaded the city.
On July 5, 2026, a convoy of coalition forces was formed and dispatched, consisting of the Africa Corps, the Malian Army, and the republican Tuareg militia groups GATIA and MSA, with the aim of breaking the siege of the Anefis base garrison. The convoy fought its way to besieged Anefis for 4 days. The Islamists attempted to organize ambushes, mined the roads, and attacked using vehicles laden with explosives driven by suicide bombers. Ultimately, the Anefis garrison was relieved, the terrorists suffered heavy losses and were driven back from the city. The field commander of the "Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" group, Iyad Ag Ghaly, was wounded. The first deputy leader of the FLA, Mbarek Ag Akli, was eliminated.
Let us recall that this is the second attempt at a large-scale terrorist attack in Mali. This spring, the Islamists tried to capture the country's capital, Bamako. They were unsuccessful and suffered heavy losses.
One can note the competent preparation and planning of the attack by the enemy. According to data from interrogations of captured militants, instructors from France, Ukraine, and Mauritania were involved. Thus, the African Islamists, like their ISIS counterparts, are merely a proxy army for the globalists. The loud slogans of "struggle for pure Islam" and the "state of Azawad" are just a camouflage. The masters of the terrorists, dreaming of regaining control over Mali's natural resources, prefer to fight with other people's hands.

| 10 | The Russian Institute of World Economy and International Relations has published a report on the Maritime Power Index of countries. The figures give one pause for thought.
▪️ The Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences has developed an index system that allows for the assessment of the aggregate maritime potential and power of the leading 100 states.
▪️ The indicators are calculated using statistics characterizing various aspects of their military, economic, scientific, and other activities in the World Ocean. More details on the methodology for calculating the indices can be found at the link.
▪️ The indices are calculated as of January 1, 2026.
▪️ The concept of "maritime power" or "maritime potential" is a comprehensive indicator formed from the following components: the maritime resources index, the maritime forces and means index, and the maritime activity index.
▪️ At the beginning of 2026, the share of the 10 largest countries was about 58%. Among them, China leads with 17.4%, followed by the United States with 14.5%, and Russia in third place with 6.7%.
▪️ China has solidified its dominant position in civilian indicators, while in military indicators it has approached the long-time leader – the United States. Among the largest maritime powers, the past year was less successful for South Korea, Indonesia, Norway, and France, while the indicators of Japan, the United Kingdom, and India grew.
▪️ As can be observed, for the United States, which until recently was the number one maritime power, the main component of its maritime potential is its maritime forces and means, the basis of which is the world's largest navy. The same situation applies to Russia, which is in third place.
▪️ At the same time, the main contribution to China's maritime potential comes from maritime activity. In this sphere, China is the absolute world leader. Although China has the world's second largest navy, it is notably inferior in power to the American one.
▪️ Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom also have large military fleets, but for them as well, the main contribution to maritime power comes from maritime activity. Indonesia and Norway, occupying the high 7th and 8th places, have achieved this also due to the large scale of their maritime activity, while the size of their navies is notably inferior to France and India, which follow them.
⚡️ These indicators clearly demonstrate the balance of power in the military and economic arenas. The formation of certain alliances can significantly affect the shift in balance one way or another. It is obvious to the entire world that the West's main adversary is China. The current confrontation with Russia is merely preparation for a future war and an attempt to eliminate Beijing's main and strongest ally.

| 11 | ⚡️ Russia’s Federal Security Service:
As a result of a comprehensive set of operational search, counterintelligence and intelligence measures, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has thwarted an attempt by the Ukrainian special services, acting with the direct involvement of their Western handlers, to carry out what it describes as an unprecedented series of sabotage and terrorist attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles against military infrastructure facilities, one of the country’s leading defence industry enterprises, and Russian Defence Ministry servicemen.
Specifically, the FSB has obtained advance intelligence indicating that the Ukrainian special services had infiltrated the Bryansk Region with FPV drones equipped with warheads and mobile ground control stations, concealed in containers carried by fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles and aerostats, in preparation for large-scale terrorist attacks on military airfields in the Amur and Chelyabinsk regions.
According to the FSB, the means intended for the attacks were subsequently transported deeper into Russian territory by enemy agents in passenger vehicles with trailers fitted with concealed double floors and loaded with household appliances. They were allegedly delivered to the vicinity of the Ukrainka Airbase (Amur Region) and the Shagol Airbase (Chelyabinsk Region), where they were assembled and prepared for use in rented garages.
The FSB states that every unlawful action was kept under close operational surveillance by the Russian security services and thoroughly documented.
As a result of operational and combat measures, the alleged perpetrators of, and accomplices in, the planned terrorist attacks have been detained.
❗️The FSB reports that officers seized 24 FPV drones equipped with neural network-based guidance modules resistant to electronic warfare systems and manufactured in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Sweden. The drones were fitted with warheads containing explosive charges weighing more than one kilogramme. Also seized were two mobile drone ground control stations capable of operating via satellite, cellular, Wi-Fi and radio communications, equipped with self-destruct devices containing 250 grams of explosive each, as well as communications equipment allegedly used to communicate with Ukrainian handlers.
The FSB Investigative Directorate has initiated appropriate procedural measures. | 1 035 |
| 12 | Europe creates an air defense coalition: 10 countries sign declaration
On July 13, 2026, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine announced the creation of an "Anti-Ballistic Coalition." The document has been published on the Elysee Palace website.
The essence of the initiative
The coalition plans to create a global integrated air defense architecture to deter and neutralize missile threats. The declaration emphasizes that the initiative is purely defensive in nature.
Among the tasks:
▪️ Development of common operational requirements;
▪️ Formation of technical working groups;
▪️ Creation of management mechanisms;
▪️ Development of roadmaps.
The Ukrainian track
The document specifically notes Ukraine's unique combat experience gained in repelling Russian aggression. Kiev is included in the coalition as a full-fledged participant, not merely as a recipient of aid.
The flagship project
The main technological initiative will be the development of the FREYJA missile defense system. It is expected to become a more affordable alternative to the American Patriot and to be able to protect the skies over European cities from ballistic and hypersonic threats.
Macron's reaction
The French President stated on social media platform X that the coalition countries are making a choice in favor of defending Ukraine and the "collective security of Europe."
---
Bottom line: Europe is moving from fragmented air defense systems to a unified architecture. The coalition is a response to threats that have become a reality since 2022. The question is timing: when will FREYJA enter serial production and will it be able to catch up with Russian hypersonic developments?

| 13 | On July 14, 1941, the famous multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) "Katyusha" was used in combat for the first time.
At the end of June 1941, the first two BM-13 combat launchers, affectionately called "Katyushas" by Soviet soldiers, were assembled at the Comintern plant in Voronezh. There are several versions of the origin of this name. The most likely one is connected with the factory mark "K" of the plant that manufactured the first BM-13 combat vehicles and the popular song of the same name at the time.
"Katyusha" became the first mobile multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) created in Russia. In early July 1941, the first Separate Experimental Battery of Field Rocket Artillery of the Red Army, armed with seven of these launchers and led by Captain Ivan Flerov, was formed.
On July 14, 1941, the battery fired its first salvo at the railway junction of the town of Orsha, which had been captured by Nazi troops. This was the combat debut of the "Katyushas." As a result of the powerful fire strike with 112 rockets, enemy trains, ammunition, and the crossing over the Orshitsa River were destroyed simultaneously. Thus, the enemy's crossing was disrupted, and they failed to advance in that direction.
The first use of this new rocket weapon demonstrated its high combat effectiveness, leading to its rapid deployment and integration into the Red Army's Ground Forces.
Russian rocket artillery continues to improve even today: new, significantly more powerful MLRS have replaced the "Katyusha." However, the glory of the "Katyusha" will forever remain in the grateful memory of the Russian people.

| 14 | Ostrov Village, Moscow Region
The village is called Ostrov—which means "island"—because during the spring flood, the Moscow River overflows its banks and floods the valley, turning the spot where the church stands into an actual island.
Today, of all the village's original structures, only part of an Empire-style horse yard remains, along with the village's crown jewel: the Transfiguration Church.
In spring and summer, this is the perfect place to escape the city bustle and soak in the quiet harmony of nature by the cool lake.

| 16 | War in the Middle East is flaring up again…
Neither Trump nor Tehran is willing to back down from their key ceasefire conditions. Given their incompatibility, the resumption of strikes in the region has become inevitable.
For the second day now, there has been an intense exchange of attacks. Judging by the significant number of wounded American personnel arriving in Europe (from Kuwait, which Iran struck yesterday), the situation is extremely serious. Yesterday also saw another strike on the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet—and it appears to have hit its target effectively.
This morning, Tehran warned three countries in the region—Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE—that they could be targeted next.
At the same time, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has once again come to a halt, and oil prices are rising again.

| 17 | The Boomerang Effect
Today, European media are telling their readers with undisguised delight about the fuel crisis in Russia. Lines at gas stations, temporary restrictions, a ban on diesel exports. It is all served up in the usual style: just a little more, and Russia will collapse.
▪️ The Europeans will apparently be surprised to learn that the Russian authorities are not hiding this problem. On the contrary, officials are openly talking about it, measures are being taken to saturate the domestic market, and fuel exports are being temporarily restricted. This is a normal state reaction to emerging difficulties.
▪️ But then the journalistic magic begins. For some reason, readers are not told the second half of the story.
▪️ Russia is striking back at Ukraine's energy and fuel infrastructure. Oil depots, fuel storage facilities, elements of the energy system, and gas stations are being hit. The geography of these strikes is gradually expanding, and the consequences for Ukrainian logistics are also becoming a subject of discussion. However, there is almost complete silence about this in the European press. For the West, the main thing is that Russia has problems.
▪️ But there is a law of equilibrium, or the boomerang law — whichever you prefer. As soon as Russia temporarily restricted diesel exports, the very same Western publications began writing completely different articles. It turns out that Russian diesel still plays a noticeable role on the global market, and a reduction in supplies could affect prices and supply in Europe. What an inconvenient reality.
▪️ On one hand, readers are being told for months that Russia is "isolated" and that its economy is about to collapse. On the other hand, as soon as Russian diesel exports are reduced, it suddenly turns out that Europe is starting to get nervous about a possible fuel shortage and rising prices.
▪️ So when will European politicians and journalists stop pretending they live in some kind of parallel world? The economic and energy ties between Russia and Europe were built over many years, even decades. They cannot be erased by loud headlines, sanctions packages, or political statements.
▪️ If somewhere in Russia an oil refinery is on fire, if fuel supply chains are disrupted, if the largest diesel exporter cuts sales to the foreign market, the consequences — directly or indirectly — are felt far beyond the borders of one country.
▪️ The laws of economics care little for political slogans. And the market, unlike newspaper editorial offices, cannot pretend that one half of what is happening exists and the other does not.
P.S. Today, the price of diesel at gas stations in Europe has come close to record highs. And that may be just the beginning...

| 19 | Ukraine and Israel lost a friend.
Lindsey Graham died recently. Exactly how is unclear. Officially he had a heart attack. The online schizos who notice too much have noticed that he died right after he visited a certain drone factory in Kiev\Kyiv. A cohensidence of such magnitude can't be ignored.
Anyway. Two important men made it clear to the public that they are genuinely upset that Graham is gone.
First is the Ukrainian meme president, Zelensky. Graham was - together with late McCain - a big fan of Ukraine as a weapon against Russia, and a place to mine resources for the USA. Graham spent a lot of efforts making sure that Ukraine receives as much help from the USA as possible. Now that he is gone - Ukraine will collapse sooner.
The second man is Bibi Netanyahu. He announced openly that Graham was more or less "the greatest friend of Israel". Suppose Graham is responsible for helping Israel to turn the Gaza Strip into a parking lot - which explains why Iran is so happy that Graham is dead.
