- learning by doing activities
2. Grammar Translation Method:
- learning by translating from L1 to L2. More emphasis is put on grammar than communication
3. Direct Method:
- learning by using only target language (L2)
4. Functional Approach:
(Situational Approach) - learning by focusing on every day language functions like 'making suggestions', 'making requests', and 'giving advice'.
5. Audiolingual Method:
- learning through listening to dialogues
6. Total Physical Response:
- learning by physically doing teacher's instructions: Stand up, touch your knees, walk to a window and etc.
7. Communicative Approach:
- learning by speaking the target language and communicating in real life situations
8. Lexical Approach:
- learning by focusing more on lexical items such as words, phrasal verbs, idioms, collocations, and fixed expressions. More emphasis is put on vocabulary than grammar
8. Guided Discovery:
(Inductive learning) - learning by working out the language rules from examples given by a teacher
9. Presentation-Practice-Production
- a step-based approach where a teacher firstly presents the language, then gets students to practise it in a controlled practice, and finally encourage them to produce the learnt language by themselves
10. Test-Teach-Test:
- an approach where a teacher firstly tests students' knowledge about a particular topic, then teaches new topic or re-explain the previous topic, and finally test students how well they understood the topic
11. Task-based Learning:
- learning by completing tasks instructed by a teacher. By doing tasks, students will have to use a certain language and reflect on it after finishing the task
12. Content-based Learning:
- when a subject, e.g. math or history, is taught in a target language (L2)
13. Structural Approach:
- method where topics are explained according to the level of difficulty. Simpler topics are explained before moving to more complex ones
