Significant proportion of people migrating crossed the border illegally, in hope of avoiding deportation by applying for asylum, seeking registration, or simply dodging the overwhelmed border control and deportation entities. While both major parties expressed their intention to somewhat stricter migration procedure, Democrats advocated for integrating those immigrants the country already received and addressing so-called "root cause of migration" by cooperating with Mesoamerican governments. Republicans stay big on evicting illegal immigrants, investing in heavier border control, as well reducing the number of visas and permits the country provides.
