you should’ve seen that man’s face because.. he. didn’t. even. flinch. he pauses, looks at me, smiles, and goes: ‘yeah… i could sense it. slow is good for me too. thank you for being honest.’ and i was like ??? why? why does this man have the perfect response every damn time? on our next date, we meet at this cute lil donut shop, and he starts talking: ‘i reflected on what you said. that i move fast. i’ll try to slow down, but you know... i can already feel that i don’t want to lose you. i know you’re flying away very soon. in my head, there’s a deadline.‘ first of all, when a man says, ‘i reflected on what you said,’ that's already the cherry on top. i love when they do that. instantly makes me feral. then he proceeds to tell me he thinks i’m talking to a few men at the same time, and that’s why he’s moving the way he is. apparently, he was trying to win the competition. girl. my jaw hit the FLOOR. HAHAHAHAHAHA do men genuinely think we have the bandwidth for multiple people? we went on a few more dates after that, and somewhere deep inside, i already knew my answer to the question he was preparing to ask. at one point, he stops, looks at me, and says: ‘will you be my girl?’ i guess you already know my answer. i wasn’t ready. i simply wasn’t ready to make space for a new person in my life like that. i didn’t want to try and see whether it worked out or not. deep in my gut, i knew i wanted to go home and figure my life out first. but all i can really say is this: this man healed parts of me he never even broke. and there’s something so beautiful about that. some people come into your life for a season, not to stay, but to gently remind you that softness still exists. that good men still exist. that being cared for can feel safe. and for that, i’ll be forever grateful to him.

my review on ‘yesteryear’ by caro claire burke 🐓🥚 listen: i had such high expectations for this one. and unfortunately… it didn’t live up to em. the book is so …. bland? the main character is so off-putting that, at some point, it became almost impossible to sit through her thoughts. she’s just angry all the time, and she literally gets ZERO character development throughout the entire book. a lot of the characters don’t even seem to believe in the things they’re saying, so as a reader, i never felt like i got to really dig into the story or its themes. and don’t even get me started on the side characters (who are supposed to make the story feel vivid)… they all feel more like caricatures than actual people. in our book club, we couldn’t even form a solid impression of most of them because we know so little about their backgrounds. i honestly think that if the author had taken us deeper into the main character’s psyche, this would’ve been a much more interesting ride. but oh well. and the ‘grand’ plot twist? dpmo. i swear me and the girls at book club came up with storylines that were way better than the actual one. i get that it’s the author’s debut novel… but sometimes you need to sit with a story a little longer and give it more thought before putting it out into the world #jinx_reads
