IELTS (Cambridge Language Assessment, British Council, IDP Australia - three owners of IELTS) releases Cambridge books every year for a reason. Most candidates don't pay attention to the comments from the examiners for the responses written by candidates at various levels. The examiner feedback clears questions as there is contradicting advice on the internet. In the latest book - Cambridge IELTS 19 - we learned that it is actually recommended that we choose ONE side and support our stance/position with 2-3 reasons rather than go for a balanced approach in pursuit of the highest score. That is not to say balanced approach essays don't score high, but the examiner was saying there is no need to complicate things. So for these two questions, always choose ONE side. 1 To what extent do you agree or disagree? 2 Is this a positive or negative development?
