Hope everyone's well. I'm keeping off tech as much as possible, prioritising inner peace and in person activities. The balcony garden is being prepared for winter. I'm having fun making some to rejuvenate the soil from last season's growing. I've also put in cover crops seeds and mulches. Also been seed saving tomato seeds and taught the community centre growers it as well. The centre is looking for funding to try and expand the work we did this year which would be great. Update on tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber plant on my balcony garden. I over sowed tomato seeds this year.. 50+ when I should have done around 12. It meant I spent too much time trying to donate plants. That meant I was focusing on finding new homes rather than spending time growing more. Growing for me is about learning skills but also slowing down and relaxing which is very needed in these chaotic times. I will remember not to overstretch myself again. I'm trying lettuce for the first time and it's doing really badly. Slow growing and wilting. I think it's lack of light as I don't feel I'm under or over watering. Loving the cucumber plant. It's given us two so far and another two are growing. It's also developed a relationship with a neighbouring tomato plant. Very cute. How's your growing going? Buying direct from Farmers/local Producers has been PFFA's goal from day one . 🌿 A farmer spoke about his experiences growing for supermarkets ... He grew 60 tonnes of salad potatoes for a large UK supermarket. Upon harvest, the supermarket decided they were no longer interested in that specific variety, and cancelled the order - leaving a huge amount of food with no home, and the farmer financially screwed. 60TONNES OF PERFECT POTATOES REJECTED 🙄👎 Wasting food in this way cannot go on any longer! How can Farmers /Local Producers better manage their businesses without being dictated by supermarkets ? Do we want to Save Supermarkets or Local Producers ?
