Updates from the Academic Council meeting as of 16/08/2023
- Memorandum of Cooperation between NU and Institute of Coal Chemistry and Technology was approved
- Memorandum of Understanding between NU and Sidra Medicine was approved
- Memorandum of Cooperation between NU and National Research Center For Health Development was approved
- Student exchange agreement between NU and Koç University was approved (this allows for an exchange of 2 students in general)
- Memorandum of Understanding between NU and Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) was approved
- Periodic Review Policy was approved (the policy concerns periodic review of Institutional academic systems in line with accreditation requirements)

| 7 | NU's GSB received membership in BGA (Business Graduate Association), which is an assisted organization of AMBA (Association of MBAs). GSB is now 250th member in the BGA network.
Thus, GSB is currently in Stage 2 of 3-stage process of AMBA accreditation. AMBA is one of the triple crown accreditation organizations for business schools (only 300 schools earned AMBA accreditation).

| 8 | Out of 2000 international applicants, 161 received the offer. 106 international applicants accepted the offer to study on Abay scholarship, while 28 applicants will study on paid basis.

| 9 | Updates from the Academic Space Allocation Committee
-New water dispenser is to be installed before Fall2023 between Block 4 and 6
-Classrooms 2.105, 7.105, 9.105 will be renovated and levelled starting from this summer. 2.105 will become a flex-classroom.
-Non-SMG offices in Block 6, floors 1-3 were relocated so SMG offices are in one place.
-8.522 (now offices) will be renovated into a classroom for 50-60 students this summer.
-8.422 & 8.322 will become lecture rooms instead of computer labs.
-In C3, rooms 1010, 3015, 3016, and 3030 are now "Professional Education Classrooms".
-1st floor of block 7e is to be changed significantly. For example, 7e.125/1 is to be divided into 2 classrooms, while 125/3 & 125/4 will become a computer lab.
-Additional sockets/lighting were/will be placed in one side of balconies.

| 10 | There is a proposal under discussion for NU to have a new grant type, which is an internal grant.

| 11 | Support for Students with Disability and Special Needs Policy and Procedures were approved at the Academic Council.
This would allow disabled students to approach vice-deans and ask for accomodation. Also, this policy will help NU's accreditation.

| 16 | Dear NU Community,
It is with deep sadness that we must inform you of the unexpected passing of Dr. Christian Schoenbach, our esteemed professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at the School of Sciences and Humanities.
Dr. Schoenbach joined NU as a faculty of our former School of Sciences and Technologies in 2013 and then, after serving for a year as Professor at the International Research Center for Medical Sciences, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kumamoto University, Japan, rejoined NU and Chaired the Department of Biology at the SSH.
Dr. Schoenbach was an exceptional scholar and educator whose dedication and passion for teaching and research were unwavering. His contributions to the University, his department, and the wider academic community were significant and will be deeply missed.
We plan for a memorial service on Campus in the near future.
We express our
sincere condolences and sympathy for this irreparable loss to his family, relatives, friends, and the entire community of NU, especially to the faculty, staff and students of SSH.
With deep appreciation and sadness. We miss you, Dr. Schoenbach.
