Q.1. Explain the concept of nuclear reaction cross-section (σ). Discuss its physical significance and units. Also describe low-energy neutron–proton (n–p) scattering and explain how scattering cross-section provides information about nuclear forces.
Q.2. Discuss the Single-Particle Shell Model of the nucleus. Explain the origin and significance of magic numbers. Give experimental evidence supporting the existence of magic numbers and compare the Shell Model with the Liquid Drop Model.
