AI computers are able to crack encryption up to 2 million characters long within minutes. Programmers are trying to come up with encryption systems as we speak. The swift system is currently handling 53 million secured messages per day through 11,000 banks in 200 countries. Swift is currently absorbing blockchain concepts but honestly this is years away if not a decade or more. Here are some of the problems foreseen when trying to create a more peer-to-peer experience with digital currencies and settlements: The Compliance Bottleneck: Decentralized P2P systems struggle to automate complex cross-border regulatory compliance, fraud detection, and sanction screening at scale. Fragmented Regulation: There is no uniform global law governing digital assets, tokenized deposits, or CBDCs. Different jurisdictions move at drastically different speeds. Liquidity Management: Instant 24/7 settlement requires banks to maintain continuous liquidity across multiple time zones, a shift from traditional end-of-day batch processing. We are roughly 8 to 10 years away (estimating 2034 to 2036) before alternative, decentralized, or blockchain-based frameworks handle the majority of daily global transactions. While individual platforms are entering commercial rollout right now in 2026, achieving global ubiquity requires overhauling deeply entrenched regulatory, structural, and infrastructure layers. The financial system operates on a massive scale, and a timeline for true market dominance depends on specific development.
