In media coverage of the results of both the French and UK elections, we can see the media trying to create a metanarrative about the failure of the so-called 'far-right'. In reality, these results show the inherent flaws of the democratic systems of each respective nation. First-past-the-post doesnt not represent the will if the people, as a party with 1/3 of the vote has gained 2/3 of the representation. The UK system is designed to prop up the major parties and hurt minor parties, seen in Reform only getting 4 representatives despite having a vote tally of over 10%. Whilst in France, the centre-left, far-left and centre-right all 'colluded' to ensure that Le Pen's National Rally suffered in the second round The positives that can be taken out of this are 1) people don't care that systems are rigged, so they won't care when we rig them, and 2) the alliance between the centre-right and left will not be beneficial for either (as seen in the ongoing collapse of the governing coalition in Austria), ultimately helping us in the long run. Do the right thing and we will succeed.
