The building is regarded as the first in Russia constructed specifically for a commercial bank. The project was approached seriously. Before construction, Susor traveled together with a representative of the bank through France, Belgium, and Germany to study European experience in bank architecture. That’s why it is not just a decorative façade, but a well-thought-out financial building from the late 19th century. Inside, the cashier’s hall and business hall became the main areas. It was decorated with twenty columns made of white Carrara marble, cast-iron crystal chandeliers, and a rich furnishing. The building was intended to make the right impression immediately: here money is handled, everything is solid, modern, and reliable. For its time, the building was also technically advanced. It had its own power plant, steam heating, ventilation, elevators, water supply, sewerage, an alarm system, and a telephone connection. For 1890, this was almost bank high-tech. An interesting detail: you can actually get inside. Today, there is a bank branch in the building, so some of the historical interior spaces are accessible to visitors for free. Such a route is already known from the former Moscow — Beijing train: about six days and approximately 7.6–9 thousand kilometers, with key stations in Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Ulaanbaatar, and then on to China to Beijing⁠. Along the way, tourists cross almost the entire country: the Urals, Western Siberia, the Yenisei, the Angara, Lake Baikal, Buryatia, and the Mongolian steppes. After that come Ulaanbaatar, the Gobi Desert, the Great Wall of China, and Beijing. This provides not only an international route, but a ready-made calling card: Russia, Mongolia, and China on a long journey without airports, transfers, and luggage-chaos.
