The country is on the trajectory to surpass Japan as the leading global auto exporter. This development marks a significant shift in the global auto industry. Key Points: Record-Breaking Sales: China's overseas auto sales surged to unprecedented levels last year. Dominance in Gas-Powered Autos: Traditional gas-powered autos were the primary driver of the sales increase. Despite China's recognition as a leader in electric vehicles, gas-powered cars fueled the surge. Focus on Russia: Increased demand observed, particularly in Russia. Chinese carmakers capitalized on the departure of Western carmakers from the region post-Ukraine war.

The finance ministry is likely to seek advice from Niti Aayog, which is examining tax-related issues, including the inverted duty structure, in these sectors. One of the suggested ways to address the inverted duty structure is by rationalizing input and output GST rates or allowing specific industries to claim cash refunds from accumulated input tax credits. since 2015, Union budgets have attempted to address this issue by removing duty exemptions and lowering duties on various raw materials. Import duties have also been increased since 2014-15 to correct the inverted duty structure for non-free trade agreement countries.
