40% of money markets funds are in reverse repos with the Fed which is about $2 trillion of the 5 trillion in money market complex.
Powell said at last meeting the reverse repos have no effect. He is wrong. It’s definitely a contributor to the M2 negative y/y growth rate. Contraction in bank credit and shadow banking credit is most of it but Fed reverse repos available to money market funds plays a part.
