Q10
- Oral sounds are produced when the airflow is directed solely through the mouth, with the velum (soft part of the roof of the mouth) raised to block airflow through the nasal cavity. Most consonants and vowels in English are oral sounds, such as /p/, /t/, /k/, /s/, /m/, /n/, /l/, and /ɑ/.
- Nasal sounds occur when the velum is lowered, allowing the airflow to pass through the nasal cavity as well as the mouth. This resonance through the nasal passage creates nasal sounds, such as /m/, /n/, and /ŋ/ (as in "sing") in English.
Q9
1. Stop Consonants: These involve a complete closure of airflow momentarily, then a sudden release. Examples include /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, and /g/.
2. Fricative Consonants: These are produced by creating friction in the airflow. The articulators partially block the airflow, causing turbulence. Examples include /f/, /v/, /s/, /z/, /sh/, and /h/.
3. Affricate Consonants: These combine features of stops and fricatives. They begin with a stop closure and end with a fricative release. Examples include /ʧ/ (as in "ch") and /ʤ/ (as in "judge").
4. Nasal Consonants: These occur when the airflow passes through the nasal cavity while the mouth is closed. Examples include /m/, /n/, and /ŋ/ (as in "sing").
5. Liquid Consonants: These involve a partial closure in the vocal tract allowing for some airflow without turbulence. Examples include /l/ and /r/.
6. Glide Consonants: Also known as semivowels, these have a slight closure in the vocal tract but allow for freer airflow than stops. Examples include /w/ and /j/ (as in "yes").

Voiceless velar stop
The voiceless velar stop consonant is /k/ and It's made by raising the back of the tongue against the soft part of the roof of the mouth (the velum), blocking airflow temporarily, then releasing it abruptly to create the /k/ sound.

1- Respiration
2- phonation
3- articulation
Respiration : the act of breathing in which We draw air from the atmosphere into the lungs and then exhale it into the larynx which is the place of producing sound
phonation : is the process by which the vocal folds produce certain sounds through quasi-periodic vibration.
articulation refers to the physical movements and positions of the speech organs, such as the tongue, lips, and vocal cords, that produce different speech sounds. It involves how these organs interact and shape the airflow to create specific sounds like vowels and consonants.
Q6
Voicing occurs in the larynx when the vocal cords (also called vocal folds) come together. When air from the lungs passes through the closed vocal cords, they vibrate, creating sound. This vibration produces voiced sounds. Adjusting the tension and position of the vocal cords changes the pitch and quality of the sound produced. In contrast, for voiceless sounds, the vocal cords remain apart, allowing the airflow through the glottis without vibration.
Q5
1. Vocal Folds: Located in the larynx, they vibrate to create sound.
2. Glottis: The opening between the vocal folds where the airflow passes during speech.
3. Pharynx: It acts as a resonating chamber for speech sounds.
4. Mouth: Various parts of the mouth, including the tongue, lips, and teeth, shape the sound.
5. Nasal Cavity: Sound can resonate within the nasal passages, especially for nasal sounds like 'm' and 'n'.

Q1\
1- Phonation, or the voicing process, refers to the production of sound in speech through the vibration of the vocal folds in the larynx when air passes through them. This vibration creates the basis for voiced sounds in language.
2- A phoneme is a basic unit of sound in language. It is the smallest distinct sound that can change the meaning of a word.
-"phone" refers to the smallest unit of sound that can be used to distinguish words in a language. It represents a single sound produced by the human vocal system, such as a vowel or a consonant
-"allophone" is a term used to describe different sounds or pronunciations of a single phoneme (a basic unit of sound in a language) that can occur in different contexts
3- linking:- is that /r/ which links between. 2 words one ends with a vowel and the next begins with a vowel.
this mean (that in finel Position. R.P has /r/ only if the immediately following word begins with a vowel.
-never again / nevər əɡen / -better off / betər ɒf /
-Intrusive /r/: it is quite usual to add /r/ following the vowel /ə/ or /ɒ/ even when there is no letter /r/ in spelling.
So intursive is added in Pronunciation between.
syllables, but not found in spelling. (for ease of pronun ciation)
Africa and Assia / africa ənd Assia /
linda and Ann / linda ənd ann /
I saw a man / aɪ sɔː ə mæn /
In Saki’s time it was rare for a woman to be portrayed as “cunning” or “conniving”. Rather, women and girls were frequently cast as the more trustworthy characters, whereas men and boys were the rascals. By casting the troublemaker as female in his story, Saki counters stereotypes about the proper way for young women to behav.
Oscar Wilde shows the double standard of society: the rich people of the society are in the enjoyment of all luxuries but people are devoid of necessities. This social injustice is best satirized in The Happy Prince. The first victim of this injustice is a poor seamstress who is in poor conditions and is not able to do something for her child. She is helpless waiting for the time to take its turn. With her hands, she can stitch the gown of the queen. Yet with these hands, she cannot cure her child. The writer’s state of depression makes our hearts rebel against this unfair distinction and the pleasures of the rich are more valuable than the life of individuals. The second victim we see is the young man in the garret, who had large and dreamy eyes‟. But the cruel society had snatched the dreams from his eyes and stuffed them with the gloominess of poverty. He had to complete the play, but his empty belly had molded his creativity toward ideas of poverty. As it is said that “The empty stomach is the grave of great ideas”.Through this story, Wilde shows the city council members to be greedy and obsessed with their public images they cannot understand the humanity of the dead prince and a little bird for they are too busy with their daily pursuits to increase their money, rank, and power.
They cannot understand the humanity of the dead prince and of a little bird for they are too busy with their daily pursuits to increase their money, rank, and power. The mayor and local councilors are supposed to be responsible for the well-being of citizens but this is not the case. This is evident when the mayor proposes replacing the Happy Prince with a statue of himself. If anything Oscar Wilde may be highlighting the selfishness of those in authority. Rather than looking after others they are looking and thinking only of themselves. They do not see the poverty that exists in the town nor do they see the struggle that has overcome so many of the citizens in the town.

What is the political and religious aspect of the story of the Happy Prince?
Wilde was a dedicated Christian throughout his life, and religious themes run through “The Happy Prince.” The titular Happy Prince represents a Christlike figure who supports analogous teachings to those of Christian parables. Much like Christ in the Bible, the Happy Prince chooses to sacrifice himself to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and downtrodden. Ultimately, God rewards the Prince in paradise, confirming both the narrative’s religious subtext and the Christian roots of the Happy Prince’s values. Although the intended parallels between the narrative and Christianity lie in its values, the story also portrays other religions using stereotypes. In doing so, religious values in “The Happy Prince” sometimes fall flat. Ultimately, the intended religious influences in this story teach one to value making sacrifices for those who are oppressed by poverty and cannot advocate for themselves.
