A bizarre armed confrontation broke out in Kiev between officers from two of Ukraine’s most powerful security agencies — the SBU and military intelligence, known as GUR/HUR. The clash was connected to the detention of Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, a Russian unit fighting for Ukraine under military intelligence. Footage captures gunfire during the confrontation, but accounts differ over who fired first: GUR sources blame the SBU, while the SBU says GUR personnel resisted its operation and opened fire first. Three GUR officers were reported wounded — not the 10+ mentioned in some early accounts. 🇪🇪🇪🇺 Estonia’s defence minister resigns over €70m Ukraine arms scandal Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur has resigned after a controversial €70 million procurement deal for artillery shells intended for Ukraine. In 2024, Estonia reportedly paid the money upfront through the EU’s European Peace Facility to companies that had no previous record of producing or selling artillery shells. Estonia later disputed the contracts, with the case now subject to international arbitration.  Pevkur said he had not personally read the contracts but accepted political responsibility for the defence ministry’s procurement system. Estonia’s National Audit Office had raised serious concerns over defence spending, while prosecutors have opened an investigation into the ministry’s finances.
