A glorious night…so much so this is one of the only photos: Join me in congratulating the champ, and the first of the Waggener brothers to achieve this feat: Matthias is a black belt! If you’re following along at home, the Waggener brother’s belt meter now looks like this. ⬛️🟫🟫🟦 On a personal note, I want to say congrats, and thank you to Matthias. His instruction has left more fingerprints on my game than anyone else, and I hope to join him at black sooner rather than later.

The bitter cold has gripped our dojo this winter. The road down has been impassable by car for weeks, only just now thawing out enough for 4WD. The hike down is a welcome and peaceful respite from the constant noise of our modern days. I’ll miss making this trek in the dark mornings and sunset evenings…but more snow is forecasted to head our way next week, so maybe I’ll keep trudging down. I hope you all are ending your week by hitting the mats. I’ll see you out there. ~ SW

MIDNIGHT MASS Happy New Year!

Gearing up for tomorrow night’s OpWW “Midnight Mass” For the grapplers out there: The Devotion Jiu-Jitsu Midnight Mass TRIBULATION: Starting at 8pm sharp: 5:00 rounds/1:00 rest 40 rounds 4 hours I’ll be walking off the mats from my final roll and taking a swig of champagne as the clock strikes midnight.

Glorious night on the mats for our second ever promotion night at Devotion. Join me in congratulating everyone who leveled up tonight. Special thank you to Donald A., who made the trip up from Florida to join us for the special occasion. We didn’t have a new belt achieved, but a lot of stripes were given out. Open mat tomorrow at noon. If you’re anywhere around these parts, come train with us.

This past weekend was filled with training, as we welcomed the founders of Patria Gloria Jiu-Jitsu for Circle of Honor on Friday, and again for a highly educational 3.5 hour Sunday session. What we do here on the mats echoes across the world - and we are constantly striving to inspire others to not only train but to build their own temples and take back control over where, when and who we can train with.

Hope you all started the week off in the proper fashion - strangling your friends on the mats.
