You know who has traditionally done very well in times of famine? The peasants! Jk, read a book

If you really think food security may be diminishing to the point that massive amounts of people will starve, spend your time cultivating power. Go to law or business school or wheedle your way up the corporate ladder.

Wheat going up 7% for 1 year would not greatly affect my tortellini budget. It's not like gas, that affects every step in production. It's not necessarily grand but 7% changes in this or that good happen every year. Inflation as a whole has been awful, but it''s not even a good inflation indicator since it has a known political cause and may be entirely different next year. Don't change hobbies based on the economy, but your time is likely more valuable than growing 38$ worth of beans and tomatoes.... unless you really love doing it!

Wheat exploded in price yesterday (limit up) after USDA forecast that over 8 million acres of HRW (Hard Red Wheat) will be abandoned in the Great Plains That's 37% of planted acreage reported in the March Prospective Planting report, and means U.S. farmers this year will harvest their smallest wheat crop since 1972. This comes on top of already record-low planted acreage heading into the season (lowest since 1919 in some metrics). Global supplies are tightening too. Expect bread, pasta, baked goods, and processed foods to climb in the coming months — and pressure on livestock feed could push meat/dairy prices higher as well. This is another brick in the wall of rising food costs. Grow your own food — that is the answer. Stock seeds, expand the garden, learn to preserve, and connect with local growers. - @iceagefarmer (source)

Areas I'd move toward: In a world where you can sell things by taking a picture of it, Provence technologies will be huge In a world where the granularity of economically viable product decreses, along with start-up and overhead costs choose micro-production (garage factory) and micro-logistics (Drones) By the same token, arbitrage disappears... middlemen will suffer but creativity will prosper. Invest in Direct to consumer and innovation. Fixed commodities and utilities will flourish, so power and mining. Bail on Amazon and Fed-Ex, etc. before "Make me a distribution company" and "find me the nearest ___ for sale" become viable commands

As soon as I have to make you a program that says: "put all inputs here, take all outputs there, choose which nodes to activate." you lose 90% of the benefit of AI. You just have a sloppy app with maybe a few non-deterministic inputs. The real value is when you and an AI assistant can cobble together toolchains on the fly. Switch roles as needed. Auto-adapt context. Abandon the notion of software, or suffah

Perusing around corporate chats, eveasdropping... The 2 extremes I see with people trying to use AI to code: 1. The Indian: ChutGPT can not read my entire Sharepoint folder Saar, pls fix. They think it's boundless. They understand none of it. 2. The Senior Dev. I've been arguing with this all day to use my existing framework. It always bames stuff stupid. Both are doomed. You can't just wave it like a magic wand. You need to engineer pipelines, context, architecture. You can't (cost effectively) debug something written in Python using assembly, so don't debug code written by an agent. Fix your context and have the agent fix it. Hardware guys are going to have to handhold the entire once more. It's 1982 all over again.

America has four guns per man and shoots roughly 0 per year. Do crime or don't do crime. Don't sit around holdimg crime.

Should there ever be a desire to use them properly, they'll be smuggled in within days from all over. Rather than sit on a whole stockpile of crime just print what you need for the immediate. Just-in-time logistics is probably the way to go for revolution.

If you are in Europe, you should view it as a patriotic duty to get a 3D printer, and learn how to use it. You are going to need guns – lots of guns – because I will guarantee you the Muslims are already arming up. https://x.com/TheBritLad/status/2098830744697070043

It doesn't have to get any better to change what it will change. I can still fill out a spreadsheet faster by hand than on an Apple II. The interfaces and tecniques were born yesterday.

I'd be more inclined to believe that AI was going to destroy us all if I could get it to actually comply with lessons generated from a harness Instead even with fable 5 it just bashes its head into the same walls over and over again. It's useful but it's not even slightly close to AGI

Essays are obsolete. Essay topics are now assigned. Essay topics are as easily generated as essays so Categories of essay are now assigned. Which are as easily generated. Eventually all class assignments are to just write God on a piece of paper and hand it in.

In 2025 the test to determine whether you're qualified to work on AI will be generated by an AI.
