❇️Today's answer writing Topic - Day - 3 Q. Discuss the features of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), how it is risk to state finance? and also compare it with New Pension Scheme (NPS) with suitable example. (600 Words) #descriptive

❇️Issue at a glance: The OPS versus NPS debate Why in News? The issue of the old pension scheme (OPS) versus the new pension scheme (NPS) has dominated news since a long time now. Some state governments recently announced their plan to implement the old pension scheme (OPS) by replacing the National Pension Scheme (NPS). ✅What is pension and why is it required? — A pension provides people with a monthly income when they are no longer earning. — Need for Pension: 1) One is not as productive in the old age as in youth. 2) The rise of nuclear family –Migration of younger earning members. 3) Rise in cost of living 4) Increased longevity 5) Assured monthly income ensures dignified life in old age ✅Difference between OPS and NPS — Under the OPS, retired employees received 50 per cent of their last drawn salary as monthly pensions. NPS is a contributory pension scheme under which employees contribute 10 per cent of their salary (Basic + Dearness Allowance). The Government contributes 14 per cent towards the employees’ NPS accounts. ✅ What's Problem with OPS? The main problem was that the pension liability remained unfunded — that is, there was no corpus specifically for pension, which would grow continuously and could be dipped into for payments. The Government of India budget provided for pensions every year; there was no clear plan on how to pay year after year in the future and with increasing life expectancy, increased longevity and Rising Old age Population, it would become unstainable. The government estimated payments to retirees ahead of the Budget every year, and the present generation of taxpayers paid for all pensioners as on date. The ‘pay-as-you-go’ scheme created inter-generational equity issues — meaning the present generation had to bear the continuously rising burden of pensioners. ✅Why OPS is Government staff’s Favorite? The OPS or the Defined Pension Benefit Scheme assured life-long income post-retirement, usually equivalent to 50% of the last drawn salary. Government staff prefer the OPS scheme as it allows them to avert their contribution of 10% of their basic pay and dearness allowance towards the employee pension funds, as envisaged in the National Pension Scheme (NPS) since inception in 2004. The pension under NPS remain static and there is no Dearness Relief to compensate the price rise /inflation as available in the OPS. For example, under the NPS, the official with a basic pay of ₹30,500 received ₹2,417 as monthly pension as against the ₹15,250 pension he would have been given under the OPS. ❇️Today's Topic (You can Write Essay as well as Answers) - Day - 2 Q. What do you understand by Green Bond? What is Sovereign Green Bond Framework? Discuss the Importance and Challanges #descriptive

India’s First Sovereign Green Bonds Framework Recently, the Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs has approved the final Sovereign Green Bonds Framework of India. Sovereign Green Bonds will be issued for mobilising resources for green projects. What is Sovereign Green Bonds Framework? The Framework comes close on the footsteps of India’s commitments under “Panchamrit” as elucidated by the Prime Minister at Conference of Parties (COP) 26 at Glasgow in November 2021. It will further strengthen India’s commitment towards its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs) targets, adopted under the Paris Agreement. Green Finance Working Committee (GFWC) was constituted to validate key decisions on issuance of Sovereign Green Bonds. The framework has been rated ‘Medium Green’, with a “Good” governance score by a Norway-based independent second opinion provider CICERO. The ‘Medium Green’ rating is assigned ‘to projects and solutions that represent significant steps towards the long-term vision, but are not quite there yet. All fossil fuel-related projects have been kept out of the framework, along with biomass-based renewable energy projects that rely on feedstock from ‘protected areas’. ❇️ Contribution of Creators Economy to Indian Economy YouTube creators contributed over ₹10,000 crore to India’s GDP in 2021 and supported over 7,50,000 full-time equivalent jobs, according to a study by Oxford Economics. As per reports, YouTube creators in 2020 contributed ₹6,800 crore to the country’s GDP and supported the equivalent of 6,83,900 jobs. (Read the Detail BL Article Here) ✅ Scope of YouTube Channels in India YouTube platform hosts around 40,000 Indian channels with over 1 lakh subscribers and the number of channels earning revenues in excess of Rs 1 lakh jumped by 60 per cent year-on-year in June 2021. The cost of setting up a YT channel is negligible. The big influencers end up hiring teams, setting up studios with fancy equipment and exploring alternative marketing and revenue generation options as well. Instagram: It is another platform for big influencers. It has a user-base of 180 million-plus. Plus, there’s Spotify, podcasters, and gamers, as well as smaller communities on Twitch. ✅ Potential of India’s Creator Economy The country’s creative economy has the potential to become a soft power that can impact job creation, economic growth, and even cultural influence. India’s creators and artists will continue to have an impact on the country’s economy as they build the next generation of media companies that interact with a global audience. Role of Social Media for small and medium-sized businesses? For small and medium-sized businesses, YouTube/Facebook/Instagram has turned out to be a significant tool. Businesses have successfully grown sales and connected with customers through their own channel, targeted advertisements, or simply from watching YouTube, Instagram Reels content. ✅ What are the few challenges faced by the creator economy? Indian Smartphone Mobile Users: Only about half of India’s mobile users have smartphones Internet Connectivity: Most of India lives with pathetic 4G speeds, which is a big barrier. In contrast, some 90 countries already have commercial 5G, while India hasn’t even auctioned spectrum. It can be described as a “hyper-pareto” market: – In these markets 95-99% of the revenue is being cornered by 1-5% of players. It is in contrast to a normal Pareto system, in which 80% of the revenue is accrued by 20% of the players in the system. The practical barriers for a digital creator are mostly policy-related: TikTok is banned; creators pay 18% GST and fill in lots of intimidating paperwork on revenues. ✅ What can be done? More attention is required at removing policy barriers and red tape would help creators to maximise their potential. If 5G rolls out, and smartphone penetration improves, growth rates in this digital creator economy could be turbocharged, despite the already large base of users. Join 👉👉 @descriptive_bankexam

❇️ Current Account Deficit India’s current account deficit (CAD) shot up to an all-time high of $36.4 billion, about 4.4 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), in the quarter ended September 2022 (Q2FY23) The high CAD in Q2FY23 was due to the widening of the merchandise trade deficit to $83.5 billion from $63 billion in Q1FY23 and an increase in the net outgo under investment income The RBI’s Financial Stability Report (FSR), released on Thursday, said the rise in the CAD due to the huge trade deficit in Q2FY23 reflected the impact of slowing global demand for exports, even as growth in services exports and remittances remained robust. What is CAD? CAD comprises a trade account (imports and exports of merchandise goods), services account (imports and exports of services), and net income from abroad (such as remittances). Out of these three components, the dent to CAD is our trade account. Surplus in the services account and net income from abroad are smaller in comparison to the deficit in the trade account. ✅What happens if the current account deficit keeps worsening? Depreciation of Rupee: Due to the ballooning current account deficit, the demand for foreign currency will rise, leading to the depreciation of the home currency. Depleted foreign exchange reserves: The Reserve Bank of India will continue to defend against the fall of the rupee from the mighty dollar's rise and this depletes the forex reserves. It is expected that the reserves will fall to $523 billion by end of this year. Rise in imported inflation: Another aspect of the depreciating rupee is the rise in imported inflation, which in turn, leads to an uptick in broad-based inflation in India. Costlier Imports: The depreciating rupee has made imports costlier, therefore, for a country like India, which imports costly items and commodities like crude oil, semiconductors, and electronic goods, the burden on the exchequer is rising and this is pushing the current account deficit higher. Flight of Capital: The depreciating currency and rising current account deficit will lead to a capital flight away from India. It is also going to affect investor sentiments and macroeconomic stability. For the currency to be stable, it is important to keep the current account deficit in check. Usually, the current account deficit widens due to higher trade deficits. Join 👉👉 @descriptive_bankexam
