❇️ What is Precis Writing? Precis writing is writing in a compressed form which keeps the essence of the paragraph intact, means you need to shorten a passage of around 400-500 words in 150 without changing the meaning of passage. - It should retain all the essential elements of the original paragraph. - The whole idea of the passage needs to be understood and need to be summarized. - This is also a test of your writing skills. Avoid any kind of spelling mistake, grammatical error, punctuation error etc. - After writing it, read it once to check if the sentences are connected logically and if it conveys the original passage’s idea. - Precis should not have any unnecessary information like examples or any illustration. - A person reading a precis should be able to understand the idea expressed in the original passage. - While you write a precis, follow a logical sequence of events as given in the original passage. If the ideas and events are randomly given in Passage as has been in recent IBPS Exams then you need to arrange it in logical sequence by yourself in your Precis. In this case condensing 2-3 lines as suggested in above Image will not work. Avoid phrases like “In my opinion”, “In my view” etc. - The precis should be written in past tense and indirect speech. Use easily understandable language. - To write a good precis, read the passage given in question carefully. It is advisable to read the passage multiple times and thoroughly understand the paragraph - A Precis must have your own Title based on what you understood about the passage. - These day they give the word limit which is generally 150 words so you need not to worry about counting words and dividing it by 3 as the rule says but if not word limit is given then you need to write it in 1/3 word limit. - Precis is written in single Paragraph although in passage question there will be 3-4 paragraphs but you answer will have only one paragraph.
