“What should the future of policing look like in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight?
The Government is considering significant changes to policing across England and Wales, including the possible merger of existing police forces into much larger regional organisations.
There are obvious parallels with Local Government Reorganisation. Once again, proposals for larger and more remote organisations risk weakening local accountability, diluting the voice of individual communities and replacing services rooted in local knowledge with structures designed primarily around administrative scale.
Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have distinct urban, rural, coastal and island communities. Effective policing depends upon understanding those communities, responding to their particular needs and remaining accountable to the people it serves.
Whatever your view, it is important that residents have their say before decisions are made which could reshape local policing for many years to come.

When Inclusivity Means Excluding: The True Representation of England
What does "inclusivity" actually mean? In modern discourse, the word is frequently used to describe spaces with a high concentration of ethnic minorities.
However, an important question is increasingly being raised: when corporate or organizational groups drastically deviate from actual national demographics, does "inclusivity" inadvertently become an exercise in exclusion?
Consider the image —a group photograph of 24 individuals in front of a corporate backdrop. A visual breakdown reveals that out of the 24 people captured, only 7 appear to be white. In the front row of 8 individuals, only a single white person is present.
While some celebrate this as a milestone for minority representation, others argue it fails the core objective of diversity: to truly reflect the community at large.
To understand how far a group like this diverges from reality, one only needs to look at official statistics. According to data from the 2021 Census, 81.0% of the population living in England identifies within a "White" ethnic group (approximately 45.8 million people), with 74.4% identifying specifically as White British.
When 81% of a nation’s population is represented by less than a third of the individuals in a photograph, it ceases to be a proportionate cross-section of society. True inclusivity should mean a balanced, accurate reflection of the entire population. When groups drift so significantly away from national baselines, they risk replacing a true representation of England with a curated version that leaves the majority out of the picture.
